“That my son is something you’ll find out about later.” Agony and joy clashed within her eyes while she smiled at me. Does she know something? “Stand up son, tell me what was it that you saw?”she reached out her hand, tucking a finger under my chin and lifting it higher.

“Pictures, mum I saw these pictures.” I stared at her brows trying to avoid her eyes, just like I did with Dimitri. It seems like she understands it all. How could she know that I saw something? She couldn’t have guessed mum’s not that smart.

“Think again brother,”

“What?” I felt my eyes widen with shock. Who the heck was that? Dimitri? Was that Dimitri? I’m sure it was, but he’s in the kitchen how could he sound so close. I must be going crazy…

“You aren’t going crazy brother. I will tell you more later, but for now you have a party to go to don’t you?” Dimitri’s voice echoed all throughout my brain. What the hell is going on?! I shook my head, taking it from mum’s hands.  Shaking my head was my way of emptying it out.

“Oh crap the party! Mum what time is it?” A million thoughts racing through my head and I can’t understand even the simplest one. So many things have happened today. The aching eyes in the morning, Dimitri looking like he had cancer, the fish ladies and lizards, the lady behind the orb, mum screaming at Dimitri, the pictures and Dimitri talking in my head. Either I’m going crazy or the woman behind the orb told me the truth, my family is special…maybe the party will help clear things up.

“Hey Alee, hurry up being fashionably late doesn’t count when you have candles to blow out!”

“Jaycee, bloody stop calling me that!” That bimbo. Thanks to her all the boys in the group mock me ‘hey Alee, help me with my make-up.’ ‘hey Alee do you have any pads? It’s that time of the month.’ All in that same high pitched voice she used when she wanted something.

“Alee, I will stop calling you that when you grow more facial hair. Now hurry up we’re already twenty minutes late.”

“Jaycee get out of my face. How’d you even get up the stairs that fast?” Brunette hair that fell to her slim shoulders, curling like vines. Eyes the colour of tree bark. Lips thin like pencils, glossy and always smelled like cherry. That was Jaycee summed up.

“I ran up the stairs when you zoned out…. Like how you are now! Oy, oy! Alee, hey!” her arms flapped around like a mad man. Even moving like a complete idiot she could still look amazing. “ALISTAIR!” her hand came flying down faster than I could react.

“Oouch! What the heck was that for? Slut.”  I swear she hits that spot all the time.

“Cunt,” she retorted “Hey Alee,” her hand slid under my chin to lift it higher “there’s something different about your eyes.” Her brows furrowed trying to concentrate on them.

“OH NA, nothing there’s nothing different; umm I’m just wearing those things. Ahh what do you call them?”

“Contacts?”

“Yeah those like Dimitri.”

“Right, well that was no reason to hit my arm like that.” She stood rubbing her wrist. Shit I forgot she was recovering from something, but I didn’t want that thing to happen again. Those pictures gave me a head ache afterwards.

“Sorry Jayce, come on the candles are waiting.” I grabbed her wrist hoping that the coldness would be enough to act as an ice pack.

“Hey, are you staying at Jim’s?” Her voice broke the silence. I don’t know if she felt awkward but I didn’t. It’s been ages since we’ve walked together. I enjoyed it, she was the perfect person to walk in complete silence with.

“Yeah that was the plan why?”

“Oh crap, I told my dad I’d be home before 11 but if you’re staying I want to as well.”

“Jaycee, your farm is ages back the party will probably be dying by the time we get back.” Sighing I grabbed her other hand.  you're 16 as well I’m sure your dad won’t mind.”  I knew as well as she did that he would, she’d be grounded for weeks if she didn’t ask him. But I couldn’t spend this night without her.

“Umm,” her eyes drifted off. I guess she was contemplating having an awesome night out and being grounded or staying home. “I need to pee.” All of a sudden her leg crossed the other bouncing impatiently.

“Jim’s house is just around the bend, you can hold it until then can’t you?”

“No I can’t! First you want to disobey my dad now you want me wait to pee! Who do you think I am your bitch?!” I swear if we lived a place with heaps of people everyone would be able to hear her.

“Ok, ok I’m sorry.” Hushing her was easier than expected. Her eyes darted everywhere, her lips drooping a little. “Now what?”

“Find me a tree bloody heck!”

“A tree? I thought girls went in bushes if there aren’t any toilets?”

“Yeah well I don’t want anything crawling up my legs so a tree is better.” Her breathing got faster, man she must have really needed to pee or is it that time of the month?

I started searching; living in a secluded place like this should make it easy to find one. The moon had slowly started rising must be around 7 now. The grass was still wet from the rain, surprisingly there was hardly any trees, just the fence that ran around Mr and Mrs Harley’s paddock. “Oh look there’s one.” I pointed past the bush that sat opposite the paddock.

“Alistair, I told you I am not going in the bush!” Her crazy tone came on so I stepped back. I’m not getting slapped again.

“Its past the bush Jayce can’t you see it?” the bush only rose to my shoulders which would be up to her nose. She probably can’t.

“I can barely see anything; it’s too dark for me.” She spoke as if I was crazy, hah that’s rich coming from her.

“Seriously Jayce it’s not that dark,”

“I can hardly see anything Alistair! I can only see you and the ground but that’s it.”

“Are you serious? Must be a guy thing then.”

“Humph, whatever just take me to this tree and hurry otherwise it’ll start trickling.”

I lead her to the tree, pushing past the thick bush that fought like hell to keep us from the tree. Surprisingly Jaycee wasn’t bothered by it, her hand seemed relaxed. “Are you sure you need to pee?” her hand stiffened.

“Yes.”

Once we broke through the bush, I lead her to the tree which stood a few feet away. “You’ll be alright?”

“If I know how to piss in a toilet bowl I think I’ll know how to piss on the ground.” She said sarcastically. Sometimes her anger made me laugh.

“I meant being here where you can’t see idiot. Will you be fine looking after your self for a few minutes?”

“Arrrgggh of course I’ll be fine! Just go stand near the bush I’ll call you when I’m done and no looking!”

“As you command my majesty,” I did a slight bow. Now was the only time to be weird around her, when she couldn’t see me.
