18. Poof... wait.. and he's gone

Nathan stood near Ella's bed. He was silently watching her as she sleeps. He wanted to hold her hand and sit beside her pero hindi niya magawa dahil na rin sa kaibigan nitong si Jenny na daig pa ang guard dog kung magbantay. Huminga siya ng malalim. Siya ang asawa but it seems like he couldn't even get near her. It was as if he wasn't allowed to be near her. Jenny was sitting at the other side of the bed, holding Ella's hand, staring at his wife like she was the most important thing inside that room. Nakadama siya ng inis sa babaeng iyon. Kailan ba aalis ang babaeng ito?

"Why don't you go home?" tanong niya dito. Tiningnan siya nito ng masama. 

"Why don't you go home? We don't need you here." malamig na sagot nito sa kanya. 

"I'm the husband. You're just a friend." sagot niya dito. Jenny smirked at her. 

"Kailan ka pa naging asawa?" Her words were sharp like a knife. Nakadama siya ng kaba. Does she know about his deal with Ella? Does she know about what was happening between him, Ella and Alcina? He wanted to ask her kung may alam siya ngunit hindi niya magawa. Kung magtatanong siya mas lalo lang niyang patutunayan dito na hindi nga siya mabuting asawa sa kaibigan nito. And he knew that. Alam niyang hindi siya mabuting asawa kay Ella. Ni hindi niya nagagawa ang mga ipinangako niya dito noon. Ni hindi niya ito naaalagaan. As a husband, it was his duty to take care of her and look after her. But he was always too busy to even think abiout her. 

Naalala niya bigla ang dahilan nito kung bakit hindi siya nito tinawagan nang maaksidente ito. She thought that he was too busy. Gusto niyang sabunutan ang kanyang sarili. Ganoon na ba ang tingin sa kanya nito? What happened to her was a life and death situation and yet naisip pa rin nito na busy siya. 

"Just go home." wika niya muli sa babae. Jenny stood up and moved towards him. They were standing face to face now. 

"Hindi ako uuwi. Dito lang ako hanggang sa magising si Ella. Kung gusto mo, ikaw ang umuwi." she gritted her teeth. Napailing siya. 

"Fine. You made me do this." Tumalikod siya at saka lumabas ng hospital room ni Ella. He took out his phone and dialled a number. He gave instructions to the one who answered the phone and he ended the call. A little while later, may dalawang security guard ang umakyat sa floor na iyon. Sinenyasan niya ang mga ito na pumasok sa loob. Makalipas ang ilang sandali ay dampot-dampot na ng mga ito si Jenny. 

"Gago ka talaga noh!" sigaw nito sa kanya. He just gave her an evil grin. 

"I asked you to leave but you didn't want to so I made a move." mahinahong sabi niya. Matapos iyon ay binalingan niya ang mga lalaki. "Remember her face, hindi siya pwedeng pumasok sa ospital na ito. Understand?" 

"Yes, Doc." 

"Ang kapal ng mukha mo! May araw ka din sa akin!" sigaw pa nito habang pilit na hinahatak ng security. Tumalikod siya. He entered Ella's room again and sat on the chair just beside her bed. He held her hand and he stared at her peaceful face. She looked like an angel sleeping. Napabuntong hininga siya. He would do everything just to take the pain away from her. Pero paano niya magagawa iyon kung nangyari na ang mga bagay na nakasasakit dito? 

"Wake up, Ella..." he whispered. He kissed her hand and stared at her again. Hindi niya alam kung para saan ang kahugkangang nararamdaman niya sa kanyang puso, pero nandoon iyon at damang-dama niya. Maybe he was feeling guilty, maybe he was blaming himself for if he didn't leave that morning just to go to Alcina's house, Ella wouldn't meet this accident and she wouldn't be here today. 

He sighed. Maybe it was partly his fault. Tumayo siya at saka hinagkan si Ella sa pisngi. He carressed her face and gave her a light peck on her left cheek. Napangiti siya nang maramdaman niyang pinisil ni Ella ang kanyang kamay. He looked at her, her eyes were still closed and yet there was a smile on her face. She stirred and moved closer to him.
