Chapter 5

Jace's p.o.v.

"What do you mean she's gone?!" Isabelle yelled. She looked at me with pleading eyes.

"I made a terrible mistake and s-she left. She's gone." I said.

"No." Tears began to pool in Isabelle's dark eyes. "I was going to ask her to be my parabati..."

Suddenly her expression turned hard. "Jace Christopher Lightwood!"

"I will never forgive you for this! Isabelle then stormed out of the room, her hot pink stilettos sounding like gunshots with every step.

Simon got up very slowly. You could see the tears that streaked his tanned face. "I hope you've learned your lesson Jace." Simon silently left the room.

Everyone was overwhelmed with grief. Jocelyn sobbed into Luke's shoulder. Magnus' face was unreadable. Alec was quietly devastated.

I left the others in their sorrows so I could wallow in my own. I made it no further than the hallway outside Clary's now empty bedroom before the sobs overtook me. A life without Clary was unthinkable. No life at all. No happiness.

I slid down to the floor wishing, waiting for death.

Death of my slowly breaking heart.
