[Few months later, at home]
I was packing for a trip Maddison had planned; it was an all girls trip. I needed time with my girls and the get away. Our flights left tomorrow and I still hadn't packed fully. I was trying to pack for everything. I packed for a night out, swim suit, regular clothes, etc. I just hope the weather is great and its not too hot. James and I were still estranged. We were good, but different. I don't know if I should go back or not. Would he still want me? On the bright side, John and I were still good friends. He went on dates and came over to my house to say if they were good or horrible. He would have ridiculous stories. One time, a girl had really hairy legs. He didn't say anything because its not polite, but it was BAD. On the date, she talked about weird things, weird and bizarre. To add insult to injury, she was a Republican. Black Republicans aren't unheard of, but not exactly favored. They got in the car and she wanted to have sex, WITH HER HAIRY LEGS, in that car. He lied and said he was living with AIDs and she asked for him to take her home. I laughed so hard at that story. I hadn't really dated since James, so. In the midst of me packing, I hear a knock at the door. I open the door and John is standing there. He looks all nice. It was early so I was wondering if he was going on a date.
"Hey! Date today?" I asked.
"Naw. I can't look nice?"
I scrunched up my face, "Naw."
"Can I come in?" He raised his eyebrow.
"Oh! Sorry!" I pulled him in, "You caught me in the middle of packing."
"Where are you going?"
"I don't know. My girlfriend planned. We're gonna be gone for a while."
"I'll miss you," he poked his lip out.
"Awww. Likewise." I pinched his little cheeks.
"When do you leave?" He asked.
"Tomorrow. My flight leaves at night." I replied.
"Great. That means you have time for the park with me." He smiled.
"What if I didn't wanna go to the park?" I raised my eyebrow.
"You're going." He picked me up and carried me to my closet. "Now find something to wear."
"Fine." I folded my arms.
Before you know it, we were at the park.
"So, why the park?" I asked.
"You need outside." I responded.
"Trying to say I'm getting light?"
He laughed, "I guess."
We both sat on a bench.
"When's your next date?" I asked.
"I don't know. I think I should slow down." He replied.
"Hairy legs girl traumatized you?" I joked.
He smirked, "No. Its just someone I wish I could have."
"Well, fate is fate. If she was that great, she'll come back. Plus, you're great. Anyone would be lucky to have you." I smiled.
"Compliments? Wow. You're not so cold after all." He joked.
"I have a dysfunctional family. I get a pass." I said.
"Your family is not that bad...." He said.
"I come from a family of surgeons, but Im an artist. I'm a fruitloop in a box of cheerios." I spoke.
"Talented Cheerios."
I laughed, "I still love them though. How's your family?"
"Decent. Family." He shrugged.
