Longing

We're all trapped behind glass, you and I,
Gazing and aching for what passes by,
Reaching out with hungry hands,
But the glint of glass is where they land.

"You don't deserve that" to reassure,
Don't ever allow yourself to gorge,
Because the more you let them know,
The more likely that they'll make you go.

This is where it's safest, my friend,
In this cage of ice until the end,
Nothing ventured, nothing pained,
Don't let your own false smiles get strained.
