Chapter 8

ELIJAH'S P.O.V.

Cyan: 8 months until awakening

Everyone was acting strange. Taking into consideration that most of the people living within the palace weren't necessarily normal, it still didn't account for how suspicious every one suddenly was.

First there was Michellie...

"Hey Michellie I was-"

"Oh solar! Elijah i'm a little busy right now!" Michellie snapped at me, although to be fair she had been sitting at the same table for almost an hour, staring down the same bottle of champagne.

"Busy doing what?" I scoffed. "You've been eye fucking that bottle of booze for over thirty minutes."

"Go be a prick somewhere else. I said i'm busy!" Michellie spat. I opened my mouth to reply, but she continued before I could. "Leave or i'll go tell Cyan I saw you talking to a pretty girl." and that's the end of that conversation.

Then there was Cyan and Vincent...

I heard the hushed whispers before i saw them. Vincent had Elijah cornered at the bottom of the steps of the tunnel. Cyan, however, seemed to be the one calling the shots in this situation. He spoke quietly, with both anger and conviction. More than once he poked Vincent in the chest.

Vincent seemed to be the more uncomfortable of the two. He would open his mouth, only to be hissed at by Cyan. It wasn't until I took a step toward them that Vincent seemed to curl back into his expressionless persona and turned to give me his full attention.

When Cyan and I were alone I asked him what he had been speaking to Vincent about and he all but keeled over right in front of me. "W-w-what?" he stuttered out, completely refusing to meet my eyes. "N-nothing Elijah. Don't be so suspicious."

"You seemed very angry." I probed. "I have the right to be suspicious. Did he do something to you?" Of course I knew that Vincent couldn't physically lay a hand on Cyan. After pledging his life to me, he had inadvertently pledged to bend to my will. He was physically incapable of going against my wishes. His body would lock up if he even attempted to grab Cyan too hard. There was no way to get around that kind of vow. Only I could release him from his bindings to me. However, there was something bothering Cyan and it had to do with Vincent.

"I said it was nothing King Elijah! And quite frankly you have no right to be suspicious about anything I do! You're not my father and you're not my bonded so just go deal with the war and let me deal with whatever it is I'm responsible for!" And that was the end of that conversation.

And lastly there was Solar, who chose to take over any body she felt like and pop up at the strangest times.

"Have the Generals from the west deliver news from the battlefront. I need actual messengers this time. Letters are far too risky for the confidential information." I dictated to the servant at my left. She scribbled down my orders obediently, but dropped her pencil and pad as I began delivering the new set of commands. "Are you alright Nancy?" I asked as she stared, glassy eyed, at the end of the hall. "Nancy?"

"Guess again." Nancy said, her voice coming out like cascading honey against my ears. I knew then that this was not the little elf I had been speaking to. "Guess who?"

"Hello Solar. Is there something you need?" I sighed, trying not to let my irritation show. I had a war to deal with and very little time for random visits. I was already wearing myself thin from all the time I spent with Cyan.
