Chapter 27
CYAN'S P.O.V.
Ciel: 6 months old
"Are you ready?" Elijah asked, squeezing my shoulders comfortingly. I looked up at the large, looming metal gates apprehensively. They screamed protection and safety and... everything I hated growing up.
I looked down at the little bundle in my arms, his large hazel eyes blinking curiously at my expression. I wanted Ciel to be safe. I wanted him to have a happy childhood. I just had no idea how to give him both. So which was more important? "I'm ready." I breathed, watching the gates creak open and the gigantic, six story palace come into view. I gulped. "It's bigger than last time."
"There's more people to house this time. We've got the live-in maids, cooks and soldiers sharing the tunnels, the next two floors are for personal security housing as well as the kitchen and dining room and halls. The next two are for guests, the occasional visitors and also holds our library, game rooms and studies. The highest two are for us." Elijah stopped walking, pausing us at the giant double door entrance. "It's going to be different this time my love. I promise."
"He's not a prisoner. He'll know more than these walls." I declared, looking up at Elijah for confirmation.
"Of course Cyan." He sighed. "But his safety is our number one priority."
"What about his happiness?"
"He'll be plenty happy."
"You can't know that."
"I can because he has you and he has me." Elijah paused as the double doors were pulled open by a smiley looking woman in a black maid dress. She bowed to us and promptly moved aside so we can enter. "Was your childhood really that terrible?"
"No, but-"
"And his will be even better my love. Just have faith in me." He urged, leading me into the house and toward the grand staircase made of a dark marble and with golden vines along the edges to grab onto. It was beautiful.
"I do." I assured him, as Michellie, Iris and Kric came into sight. Bruftus rushed from behind us, taking Iris from Michellie's arms and watching the little merboy giggle in delight. I smiled, happy to have everyone here, safe once again.
"Kric." I called, noting the dragon seemed ready to walk off. "May I speak to you in private for a moment?"
"Of course my queen, anything for you."
"Kin." Iris blurted out in correction, stumbling over king like he stumbled over every word.
"Thank you Iris." I chuckled, handing Elijah the wriggling baby in my arms before motioning for Kric to follow me.
We walked far enough away that I knew they wouldn't be able to hear us, which was frankly a lot farther than I felt like walking from my family, but there was a lot that needed to be discussed. "So..." kric trailed off, unsure of what to say.
"How?" I asked, knowing he knew exactly what I meant.
"How what?"
"Don't play dumb."
"Little thing, i'm not playing."
"Be serious Kric!" I whisper screamed. "Six months ago I was pressing my hands into your throat, fighting a losing battle to keep all the blood in and then it started glowing and-"
"I healed Cyan." He groaned.
"You were dying." I argued. "No one heals like that. It was as if your skin just regrew."
