Chapter 12
ELIJAH'S P.O.V.
Cyan: 6 months until awakening
"And that's when you'll say 'I am cyan, your king'. The nobles will approach you one by one, they will drop to their Knees and offer you their wrist, you place-" I stopped talking, turning around to glare disapprovingly at Cyan and Michellie, who were giggling to one another under their breath. "Ahem." I cleared my throat, forcing their eyes to snap to me. "As much as i'd love to not have to go over all of this-"
"Loosen up Li-Li." Michellie teased. "It's not like we don't have time to worry about Cyan's coronation. Today is kind of a bigger deal than that."
"We have six months Michellie! Six months to practice this until he can do it in his sleep because if he can't-"
"SIx months is six months!" Michellie cut me off. "Lay off him for a day Elijah! Let him be a teenager."
I wanted to scream. Of course six months sounded like a long time to her. She wasn't taking into account that Cyan was going to awaken as a marked one on the exact same day. He had to be able to know how to do this even in that state of mind. If he didn't perform the ceremony perfectly, Solar would have my head on a stick. These were the rules. These were the directions we were given. Michellie should at least take that much into account before distracting cyan during his lessons. "He has an obligation to his people Michellie."
"So do you! Today is a big deal Elijah! Do you even know why?" Michellie argued.
"Unless it's because today is the day Cyan learns how to say thank you for coming in Merperson, I don't care."
"Today is the day Bruftus pledged his loyalty to you and was granted a new appearance." Cyan interjected, promptly shutting me up. It's been seventeen years today then, I thought glumly.
"No reason to make a big deal out of something like that." I scoffed, trying to appear nonchalant.
"Um excuse you? Of course it's a big deal! It's the only day Bruftus has ever had reason to celebrate! He's never gotten married or had a kid. He can't remember his awakening or the day he was born, most probably because it was B.C. time." Michellie insisted. "So stop being insensitive and just let me take Cyan already so we can get ready for the party."
"What party?" I cried.
"The party you're throwing." Michellie groaned, standing to her feet and stomping toward me. "Tonight. The party you've invited all of your closest allies to. The party where you finally thank Bruftus for everything he's ever done for you which, believe me, is way more than anyone else has and he's never so much as asked for a nod of acknowledgement from you. So you're gonna let me do whatever it is i've already done because you won't be able to cancel it now and you're gonna write an amazingly sweet speech that will make Bruftus cry, thus proving once and for all the big bat is capable of forming tears. Alright?"
I glared down at her, wondering how satisfying it would feel to just crack her neck and leave her. "Please Elijah?" Cyan spoke up, coming to stand beside Michellie. "She's right anyway. There's no way to cancel it and we've both spent a lot of time-"
"So you were in on this?"
"Well not originally but-"
"We're not having a party today and that's final!" I declared. "Do you guys have any idea what this day means to him? What you'll be doing to him by throwing this party?"
"You mean reminding him that his boss is an absolute ass?" Michellie countered.
"No, you'll be reminding him that in six months, he won't be able to celebrate this anymore!" I groaned, walking toward the door of my study and slamming it shut, effectively ending any unwanted passerby's from hearing what I was about to say. "He won't have anything to celebrate."
