Chapter 10

ELIJAH'S P.O.V.

Cyan: 8 months until awakening

He tensed the second my words registered in his mind. He seemed to be scrambling to come up with a new excuse, realizing there was no way he could convince me to believe the story he had just provided me with.

It almost made me laugh how he was so close to getting away with it. I had been far too distracted trying to find him, I hadn't paid any attention to the fact that I could no longer smell his unique scent of fresh air and green apple. His story had been suspicious of course, but I figured he had snuck in my office to feel closer to me. It wasn't until I had him in my arms with my nose trying to desperately inhale him into my lungs that i even realized there was no scent to breathe in. "Why can't I smell your scent Cyan?" I repeated, spinning him around so I could scrutinize his face.

He looked up at me, his deep set eyes looking even more like saucers as they remained stuck in their startled position. He bit his bottom lip, looking even more guilty than he had when I first walked in. "I was...um..."

"You were...?" I prodded, narrowing my eyes in an attempt to show him I was serious about wanting an answer.

"I don't want to play the question game." He finally said, turning on his hel and walking out of the office as if the devil was after him.

"Cyan-"

"I was in your office looking for a book on dragons." He cut me off, scurrying down the hall and away from me.

"That doesn't explain why I can't scent you. What did you do?" I growled, irritated now at his outright lying.

"I don't know why you can't scent me. You must have messed up your nose. All I did was walk to your study and look for a book." He insisted, practically running down the stairs. I wasn't sure where he was going, but I was going to follow him until he answered me honestly.

"There is nothing wrong with my nose Cyan. Vincent couldn't smell you either. The guards hadn't even smelled you as you passed them." I defended.

"I don't know why you won't believe me." He groaned, making a sharp right turn and pushing open the door that led down into the tunnels. He descended quickly, forcing me to hurry after him.

"I don't believe you because you're obviously lying to me." I snapped, grabbing his arm before he could open his room door. "There are only two ways to mask your scent. You either used a spell or a potion. If you used a spell Cyan, you broke the law-"

"I didn't cast a spell okay? I know spell casting is against the law!" He yelled, yanking his arm away. I let him go, knowing he wouldn't be able to escape me even if he tried.

"Well then you took a potion. Where did you get it from?" I questioned.

"I didn't take a potion!" He yelled, his voice squeaking slightly at the end. So he had taken a potion. Great.

"Where did you get the potion Cyan?" I demanded an answer of him now, stepping so close to him he was now plastered against the wall behind him. My voice dropped dangerously low as I added, "Do not make me ask again."

He didn't seem the least bit afraid as his eyebrows scrunched up in a look of complete and utter anger. "Are you threatening me King Elijah?"

"You'll know when i'm threatening you Prince Cyan." I mocked his appalled tone. "Answer me."

"And if I don't?" He challenged. I stepped even closer now, grabbing him by the waist and lifting him up to my eye level. "Are you going to punish me for being a bad boy King Elijah?"
