Chapter 26

ELIJAH'S P.O.V.

Baby: 4 days until birth

"Since the first attack, the moon people have continued to send squadrons here," Kric reported, "and the numbers every time appear to dwindle. We believe by this time next week the attacks should cease. They've yet to come into any contact with Cyan and they're probably under the assumption that he'll be moved soon."

"Moved?" Cyan spoke up. "Moved where?"

"Well most likely to a safer and more secret location. You are having a child." Kric answered.

Cyan frowned, seeming to have never put any thought into that before. Fortunately, I had taken care of it. "Don't worry my love." I chuckled, ruffling his hair.

"But... A base isn't a safe place for a baby." Cyan seemed to realize as he spoke. "The baby will be coming any day now. We can't stay here."

"I know." I assured him. "I've already arranged things."

"What's that supposed to mean?" He frowned deeper.

"The palace will be done in a few months and we'll move back in there right away with double the guards. Until then i've arranged a secure location for us and a select few to stay. We'll be leaving in a few days." I said vaguely, not wanting to give too much information to the twenty or so dragons in the room. It was nothing personal, but the lives of my family were far more important than blindly trusting a couple hundred dragons to keep a secret. "We'll talk more about it later."

"You didn't even consult me." Cyan pouted. "I'm an equal partner and an equal king. I should be involved in plan making."

"You are my love. You've just been a bit preoccupied with everything." I tried to explain. "The last few months has all been very dramatic. I just didn't want to give you something else to worry about when I could take care of it."

"I..." he trailed off, unable to find anything to be angry about but still angry all the same. "I still should have been consulted."

Kric cleared his throat, snapping our attention back to the silver eyed dragon. "As sweet as your hormonal mood swings are King Cyan, there's still quite a bit to brief you on."

Cyan narrowed his eyes, but said nothing. I tried my best not to laugh as Kric filled us in on the happenings of the kingdom and Cyan attempted to kill the dragon with his glare. Life seemed to be calming down.

Maybe for once I would have a meal that wasn't interrupted by some dramatic, unfortunate event.

I should've known better than to hope for an uninterrupted dinner.

It had been going rather smoothly at first. Bruftus and I had chosen to eat dinner in my office with Cyan and Michellie. We had entered, the smell of our rare steaks and tall glasses of fresh blood filling the air. I was salivating, entering the room without a second glance at anyone or anything but my food.

I dug in, not noting the unusual silence. All I knew was that i had taken almost three bites and sipped my blood without being bothered. Things were looking up for me. Then, as it does every single time I think things are finally doing better, everything went bad very quickly.

"What is that?" Bruftus boomed, his heavy footsteps shaking the room as he marched over to Michellie. Frowning, I looked up, noting that she was holding Iris in her arms.

"His name is Iris."

"I didn't ask it's name." Bruftus shot at her. "Whose is it?"

"He's mine." Michellie said slowly, almost as if she wasn't sure herself.
