Chapter 24

ELIJAH'S P.O.V.

Baby: 3 weeks until birth

"Just tell us where he is Vincent."

"Now!" Margarette screamed, slapping him across the face for the fifth time that hour. I sighed, aware that Vincent was nowhere near telling us where Aku was.

"He is dead. I killed him." Vincent said again, prompting another slap from the sea queen.

"You and I both know Aku is not dead! He can't be dead! I would know!" She yelled. "I am his mother! I would know!"

"Obviously not." Vincent shot back, his black eyes staring calmly up at his ex-lover. "He is dead Margarette. Feel free to kill me."

"I will. Trust me." She hissed, slapping him again. "I trusted you!"

"I know."

She slapped him again. "Aku was my last son! He was everything to me!"

"I know."

She slapped him again. "You took him!"

"I know."

She backhanded him, harder than all the other times. "Then give him back!"

"He's dead Margarette. His body is floating in the ocean. If you want to find him, start looking in the sea before the sharks get him."

Margarette visibly flinched, looking so hurt I almost wanted to comfort her. "He's not dead."

"Why would I return without him?" Vincent countered.

Margarette raised her hand to slap him again, but dropped it the next second. She turned on her heel and stormed out of the base's holding cell.

"Where is he Vincent?" I sighed, looking down at the stone faced merman tied to the chair before me. "We can help you, and Aku, just tell us where he is."

"He's gone." Vincent said calmly, looking deeply into my eyes. "He's sleeping with the fishes."

"You didn't kill him Vincent." I insisted. "I know you didn't. Cyan would have felt it. They have a loyalty-"

"Once again, tell King Cyan that Aku is in a better place, where he could play music and be at peace. I am shore." He coughed, "Sure i mean," he coughed again, "May I have some water please?"

I looked down at him, unsure of what to believe now.

---------------------

"He's obviously lying." Cyan insisted, rubbing his slightly swollen belly soothingly. "I know Aku's alive Elijah."

"He insists he's not Cyan." I groaned, coming to lie down in bed next to him.

"Well then he's lying."

"Why would he lie to us Cyan? He knows we would never turn on him. And why would he come back without him then? Does Vincent seem like the kind of man who would leave his mate god knows where so he could come here and be murdered?" I tried to reason with Cyan. "Maybe... maybe-"

"Don't." Cyan warned, patting his tummy in an attempt to lull the baby to sleep. "You know I would have felt our loyalty-"

"Maybe you did." He ignored me, but I continued. "The snapping of a loyalty pledge is quick, almost like the cracking of a finger, but in your chest. Maybe with everything that's been going on, you didn't notice."

"I would notice that Elijah. I'm not wrong. Aku is out there and we have to find him. He needs us." Cyan stopped patting his belly, most likely having put our baby to sleep. "It doesn't make any sense. Why wouldn't he tell you where he is? Should I go talk to him myself?"
