Chapter 13
CYAN'S P.O.V.
Cyan: 5 months until awakening
"Cyan, can you please tell the gigantic brute to give you the car keys so you can give them to me?" Michellie asked me, her eyes refusing to acknowledge Bruftus, who was currently giving me a lesson on his ancient language. Ever since the party a month ago, the two had been locked in a passive aggressive battle and had firmly planted me in the middle.
"Um... Michellie says-" I begin and am not at all shocked when he cuts me off.
"Little one, can you please tell the melodramatic blue jay that she can take a different car?" Bruftus grumbled, pretending Michellie wasn't standing a foot away.
"Okay. Michellie, Bruftus says-"
"Can you tell the hard headed jerk that I need to use Elijah's car and its not his decision on whether or not i'm allowed to use it?" Michellie told me.
"Michellie sa-"
"Will you please inform her royal highness that her ranking is no greater than mine and I do not take orders from her?" Bruftus countered, turning to glare at Michellie.
Before I could even try to relay the message, I was being cut off. "Can you please tell-"
"Okay you know what?" I cried, standing up. "You guys obviously don't need to use me as a messenger! You're obviously hearing what the other person is saying! So just talk to each other already!"
They were openly staring at each other now and their expressions seemed to soften a bit. "Forget it." Michellie said. "Cyan, please tell Elijah and his stubborn, stick in the mud lap dog that i'll just fly." With one last nasty glare, she turned on her heel and flounced from the room. I sighed. I really thought I had gotten through to them this time.
"As I was saying, in ancient vampire, the language is very similar to-"
"Why won't you just apologize to her?" I questioned. "She didn't mean to hurt you. She just wanted to do something nice for you and you had never told her about your curse lifting being temporary."
"Little one, the situation is much more complicated than you realize." He sighed. "Let us focus on your lesson for now."
"I don't need another lesson on this. I know your language very well. What I don't know is why you're angry with Michellie."
"I am not angry with Michellie." He insisted, flipping through the pages of the ancient book in front of him.
"Then why won't you talk to her?"
"It is better this way."
"What is?"
"Everything."
"That's not true." I groaned. "What is it you dislike about her?"
He slammed the big, dusty book closed. He kept his eyes trained on the front cover, obviously frustrated with me. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Michellie entering behind him, but I shook my head quickly before she could speak. Michellie had obviously masked her scent or Bruftus would have noticed her the second she was within a mile of him. Maybe this was what they needed. If I could just get Bruftus to admit his feelings to me, maybe they would finally have to talk. "Please Prince Cyan-"
"I think you love her. I think you always have. I think you're terrified her feelings aren't as strong or as real as yours and so you're choosing to push her away, because you don't think she'll still want you once your curse changes your appearance again, but that's silly. Michellie-"
