The paper was really, really smooth. It was a special one, and can be bought only here in New York. I stared at it for a few minutes and then flipped it open.

It read:

December 6, 2030

Carmel,

I know this hurts too much, but I can’t bear this anymore. I came here because Sandra told me about your supposed to be engagement with someone, and that you cheated on Sean. By the way I look at you; I know you can’t do that to him. You’re such a good person and a trustworthy one. Now I’m telling you the truth: I came here just to put up a show with Sean and Sandra for you to get hurt. I don’t want this to happen, Carmel. Believe me. Keep this letter because I’m not here anymore. I rejected Sean’s proposal and went home to my house in Los Angeles. I wish you all the best. Take care, my friend.

Sincerely,

Chloe

I felt a strong attack of emotions after I read the letter. Chloe was just forced to do something she didn’t want to do, just to destroy me. Sandra was behind this again. Her heels made a cracking sound against the floor as she approached the living room, with her eyebrows rising in anger when I looked up at her.

“Now, are you happy with this? Tell me, are you happy with this?!” she yelled.

“Sandra!” Angela yelled back to her daughter.

At that moment, Sandra was wild with rage. She ignored her mom and continued to glare at me.

“You will pay for all of this. Don’t you know how much you had cost me?!” she yelled again, this time, her voice was ten times louder than a while ago.

I rolled my eyes and stood up. I was too tired to have an argument with her. I walked form the couch when she grabbed my arm.

“Hey, I’m talking to you.”

“Let her go, sis.” Sean said from a direction not far from me.

I looked at him, but he continued to ignore me.

Sandra let me go while I walked to my room.

Sandra breathed in and out while her mother and sister were silent. I continued to walk when she said with clenched teeth,

“This is all your fault, you TIME-TRAVELER!!”

I looked at her, frozen and shocked while Sean and Angela focused their gaze on me, their jaws open and their expression spoke of one thing- bewilderment.

Time-traveler.The word rang in my head for a few times.

How could Sandra know my secret? I had been keeping that for months. I kept the hourglass safe in my room. Then a sudden memory made my mind spin back to the past.

When she went to my room…when she told me that she wants the hourglass…when I said no…and when she walked out of my room…

Everything made sense. I glared at her. She was indeed a silent monster. She wore a mask, but behind that mask was a deathly face…

“You leapt through time. You’re from year 2010 and because you inverted the hourglass, you came at this year. Oh boy, I never thought magical stories could be so, so true.” she said.

I fought a quiet sob. Angela looked to the floor while Sean spoke up.

“Is that true, Carmel?” Sean asked.

It took me five minutes to answer him. I didn’t know what to say to him after all this time. I never told Sean the whole truth, because I lacked the courage to do so. If ever I told him, he would get mad at me.
