Sean pulled away from the kiss, and he had a satisfied smile written on his lips.
“That was fast.” he said.
I didn’t say a word. I just turned my back away from him. It was a kiss I didn’t expect. The one I enjoyed and I find sinful at the same time. He ran after me in confusion of what was happening.
“Hey, Carmel. Wait!” he yelled.
“You don’t have to explain, Sean. It was my fault. I have to go.” I said.
He grabbed my arm and pulled me closer to him.
“Please, don’t walk away from me.” he said, eager to keep me in him.
I broke free from his hug and ran to my house. I rushed to my room and cried until my eyes ejected blood.
Hours passed. It was mid-afternoon when Sean came into my room and sat on the bed. I was lying in my back and trying to sleep, fighting every tear that might come down any minute.
“Mom called me. She wants to see you.” he said.
I wasn’t in the mood to listen to him. I have to sleep, and I don’t know with him why he couldn’t get that.
“Carmel-“
I knew he was going to insist on his Mommy thing. I faced him.
“Okay, I’m going.” I said and began packing my things.
It was an odd feeling to be back in this big mansion. I never thought that my arrival was just nothing for everybody, and anyways, I really liked it. I didn’t expect a grand welcome.
“You should change your uniform first.” Sean said. He gave me the machine and I walked away, planning to enjoy my privacy in changing my clothes.
“Where are you going? You can change in front of me.” he smiled cleverly.
I rolled my eyes and ran the machine down my body. The next minute, I was in my housemaid uniform with a white ribbon slung in my arm. I tied my hair into a neat ponytail and tossed the machine to Sean. He was able to catch it with one hand.
“Where’s your mom?” I asked.
“She’s in her room. Follow me.”
The room was located almost three blocks from where we stood. It was like walking down the road in a subdivision. Their house was really huge indeed. Sean opened the door and to my shock, Angela was there, playing solitaire, much more healthy than a cow.
This felt like one big shit. Sean deceived me.
Angela looked up.
“Carmel!” she ran to me and hugged me tightly. I was happy to see her again, but the thought that Sean fooled me using his mom still blocked my mind with so much anger.
I hugged her back and felt my eyes well up with tears. It was out of joy, happy that I saw my second mother again.
We sat and talked at the couch, while Sean was answering a call. Angela couldn’t believe that she was seeing me again. I was just as happy as her.
“You didn’t have to leave us.” she said sincerely. I was caught off-guard. I couldn’t find the right words to explain to her why I had to do that one?
I paused, searching for answers.
“Is there something wrong, Carmel?” she asked.
“No, nothing. It’s just that…”
“Who? Sandra? I don’t get it why she’s so prideful.”
I smiled to myself, doubting if it was really true.
She reached for my hand and put it into hers. Her hand was somewhat hot. It was the first time she did it to me.
“Carmel, I’m really sorry for all the pain our family have caused you. I know I might not look sincere but this apology is from the bottom of my heart. I’m so sorry.”
“Ma’am, it’s alright. I’ve already forgiven you.”
Sincerity was clearly seen in Angela’s eyes. That one gesture made me believe that I could actually forgive and forget.
“I have to go, Ma’am. I’ve got a lot of work.” I said and stood up.
She nodded as I took the steps out of the room.
“Hey! Where are you going? I have something to say to my mom. You need to hear it.” Sean said.
I stopped and looked at him. Just what the hell is it?
“Mom, there’s something you need to know.” Sean said to Angela.
Angela looked just as confused as I was.
“What? You better say it now. I haven’t finished my game.”
It took Sean a couple of minutes to say the right news.
“I’m marrying her.”
Then Sean’s eyes fell sweetly on me.
Angela gave me a warm and congratulating smile, while I still stared at them in utter shock and confusion. Sean said he’s marrying me. Did I get it right?
