Lily POV 7th year-
I stood in the doorway of the heads compartment gaping. I turned around and closed the door behind me, waited 5 seconds, and walked back in to see the same face looking back at me.
"Potter you're screwing with me right?" I asked as I plopped down in the corner seat across from him
"Trust me Evans, if I were screwing you I would be a lot happier right now." He replied with a smirk. A year ago I would have jinxed him into the next century for that, but things were slightly different now and I merely rolled my eyes.
"See Potter, that right there is why it took us 6 years to become civil to one another." I said.
"And for that Evans, I must applaud you. There are not many people that could withstand my charms for 6 years" he replied with his usual smirk and I snorted but ended up smiling.
"But really James, are you seriously Head Boy? You're not just messing around with me?" I asked.
"Ya I am. I'm not quite sure what Dumbledore was on when he chose me over Remus or that Amos Diggory bloke, but ya. I'm the Head Boy." He fished then added "Maybe he wanted to see if we could work together for a whole year with out burning the whole castle down,"
I was about to make a comment on burning buildings when the compartment door burst open to reveal a grinning Sirius Black. He stuck his head out of the door frame and yelled "Moooooonnny!!! I found him! He's in here!!" Before turning back to the two of us.
"Lily, light of my life!" He said throwing his arms open, beaming.
"Sirius, pain in my ass!" I replied smiling "how was your summer?" I asked him as I got up to give him a quick hug.
"Not bad, yours?" He said just as Remus and Peter walked. I gave Remus a hug and waved to Peter.
"It was fine. I spend most of it hiding from Petunia. Went over to Marlene's for a week or two."
"Did someone say my name?" Asked a tall blond girl as she walked in with a slightly shorter girl with short brown hair.
"I was just telling this lot what I did over the summer. Did you grab us a compartment?" I asked.
"Yep. I got it all covered. Me and Alice found the last empty one then came here to find you." My best friend replied, walking over to sit on Sirius' lap. I looked at her and raised my eyebrows. Marlene McKinnon and Sirius Black had had an on again off again relationship since 5th year that I honestly couldn't understand for the life of me. It seemed like just as things were getting serious between the two of them(no pun intended) they would break it off, but I just think that's what happens when the two biggest heart breakers in Hogwarts get together.
"Padfoot, please tell me you got a compartment before you dragged me off to go find James." Remus said pulling my attention away from my best friends love life before I could say anything.
"Nope! Must have slipped my mind." Sirius said twirling his wand between his fingers.
"Well where are we going to sit now?! You heard Mar, there are no more compartments and we can't stay in here because they have the prefects meeting!" Said a slightly frantic Peter.
"It's fine. You lot can just sit with us! No problem!" Marlene said happily. "Speaking of which, we better move it, the train is starting to pull out." She said as she dragged Sirius out by the hand, followed closely by Peter and Alice.James..er..Potter, Remus, and I stayed and waited for the compartment to fill in with prefects for the meeting. It was surprisingly pleasant, sitting there joking with the two of them. Two years ago if you had told me I wouldn't mind hanging out with James Potter and the rest of the marauders I would have said you were crazy, but James had matured towards the end 5th year, stopped asked me out every day and bulling other students. Once I was no longer friends with Severus, I realized I really didn't have hate for any of them, just annoyance, and I gradually became closer to all of them. Particularly James. I was already close with Remus and I had to somewhat tolerate Sirius because of his thing with my best friend, but James and I had always had a distance between us and I was glad we were friends now, or at least being civil to each other. But if we weren't friends before we would be now. As head boy and girl we shared a common room and I found it hard to believe that I could live with someone for a year and not be friends with them. Merlin, I was going to live in the same dorm as James Potter. It gave me anxiety and an odd butterfly sensation at the same time. I wonder where that came from. I mean, there was no denying it, James Potter was hot! With his gorgeous hazel eyes, messy black hair, soft looking lips, and that jaw line! Not to mention how tall and toned he was from playing quidditch. I wouldn't be surprised he had a six pack. But I didn't like him. He was easily the most sought after guy in all of Hogwarts, even before Sirius. He could have any girl he wanted, yet for 6 years he had always chose me. Whether that was simply to annoy me or for other reasons I didn't know and I didn't get to figure it because I was pulled away from thoughts by none other than James Potter snapping his finger in from of my face.
"Lily. Earth to Lily!! You there? We have to get the meeting started." He said with a small smile on his face.
"Ya sorry I'm here. Just thinking. Let's start." I stood up and raise my voice "Hey guys we're going to start the meeting!" I tried with no luck.
"Allow me" James said with a wink. "Oi!! Quiet down you lot we're going to get started!" His voice, used to yelled across the quidditch pitch, was easily heard and and the room quieted down immediately. He turned again to me
"Hello I'm your head girl Lily Evans and this is James Potter your head boy. So let's get started."
The rest of the meeting went smoothly with James adding in things here or there. He was surprisingly helpful and and a natural leader, adding in small jokes to keep things interesting. "So I think that's it unless you can think of anything else," I asked turning to James "Nope I think we're good. You guys can go back to your compartments now." He said with a smile. On our way out I tripped on the door jam and would have fallen flat on my face had it not been for a strong hands circling around my waist keeping me upright. I turned and saw James smiling "You alright?" He asked. I nodded and smiled back "Ya thanks" I said looking into his hazel eyes flecked with gold. They really were the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen.... I snapped out of it and realized that his hands were still on my waist. I cleared my throat and stepped back, blushing letting his hands fall back down to his sides.
"Well, shall we go find everyone?" I asked still looking at his eyes. He smiled, any awkwardness leaving "We shall." He said linking arms with me as he started skipping down the train to find out friends, dragging me along behind him laughing.A/N
