Chapter 10
Victoire Weasley"How are you doing with your charms now?" Victoire asked Bill "I haven't asked you that in a while, but I feel it important to know." The two had gathered in the library for their twice weekly study sessions.
"Oh, I don't know." Bill sighed. Staring at his textbook. "All of these spells seem so complicated."
"Well, you got the levitation charm down packed." Vic tried to lift his spirits "That's got to count for something."
"Yeah..." the young boy sighed "I'm still failing though. What'll mum say when she sees that I'm getting a troll in Charms."
"Well maybe you just ought to stay at home during the break." Vic shrugged with a cheeky smirk. "Besides, I talked to professor Flitwick and he gave me a list of things he needed you to do for you to be up to speed with the rest of your classmates."
"Ohh, I don't want to do this right now." Bill groaned
"Well, what else do you suggest we do?"
"I dunno." The first year shrugged "Tell me a story."
"A story?" Vic repeated. "What kind of story."
"What was it like for you growing up in france."
"France." Victoire echoed
Vic thought for a moment. She had no real reason to lie about every detail to her boy father. She would simply shift a couple things so that her family wouldn't be, well, him.
"Alright." She conceded "What do you want to know?"
"I don't know." He shrugged again "Why are you so English for a French girl?"
"What do you mean by that?" She raised her eyebrow
"Well, you English so well, you don't have an accent, even your surname is English."
"My father is English. Maman is french. My aunt Gabrielle and her family, as well as mes grandparent are my only french family. The rest is English. That's actually the larger side of my family."
"What about Teddy?"
"Um..., he ah, he lives with my aunt and uncle, on the English side." Victoire explained carefully "His parents were killed when he was only a week old"
"Oh, sorry I asked" Bill mumbled under his breath
"No,it's fine." Victoire gave him an apologetic smile.
Bill opened his mouth to ask another question, but he was silenced by Madam Pince coming up to their table.
"The library is closed now, I have to ask you to leave." She said. Her face was flat, with no emotion, but a slight note of worry furrowed her brow.
"Is everything alright?" Victoire asked, getting up. "Dinner isn't even being served yet."
"Yes, yes, you just need to leave."
Madam Pince then proceeded to usher the two out of the library. Victoire didn't even have enough time to gather all her books and sort out which were hers. She grabbed a couple at random and followed Bill out.
The two stood awkwardly outside the doors, that were now locked, and looked at each other. It seemed like they were the only ones who were in the library just as dinner was about to start. The next thing they knew was McGonagall was rushing down the hall, looking frantic and worried. Her usual immaculate bun was no short of flyaways. She seemed surprised to see the two standing in the hallway.
"What are you two doing here?" She asked them
"We were kicked out of the library and we weren't quite sure of what to do." Vic explained for the two of them
"Um- I think you two ought to head to my classroom. There are a couple of others there as well." She pursed her lips and knit her brows
"Oh- ok." They stammered and they were push towards the class.
(A/N: I feel so accomplished. Updating twice in on a couple of days. I meant to publish this yesterday but I had to go to bed before I finished it so now I'm in math class. Fun times. Been having a rough time but since spring break is upon us, life will [hopefully] get better. Bye for now. -Jul)
