Chapter 52
More days passed. Members of the Order came and went. Teddy and Victoire were forbidden from mission due to their vulnerable status. For the most part they were held in headquarters. They were getting almost as stir crazy as Sirius.
Unfortunately, they weren't allowed any more full moon adventures. Though the one time went off without a hitch, the Order still felt it a risk not necessary to take.
Longer as the days passed, Victoire and Teddy never told anyone who they were there for. Who was the person fated to die. In truth, the time travelers didn't want to tell them. The unnecessary anxiety it would cause the poor man for the rest of the year... it wasn't worth it, they decided. Of course it cause everyone who knew anxiety but mild compared to the knowledge that withing months your life would be over.
A war already sobered you to the reality of the vulnerability of life and the myth of immortality. No one knew that better than those who had already lived through one war with great sacrifice as a cost. They had all someone or someones.
The days passed with cleaning and reading. Many games of chess were won amd lost. Several eyebrows were almost singed away through gave of exploding snap. Sirius even pulled out a muggle board game he had hid away from his mother all those years ago. It was similar to chess in a certain way but they called it checkers. Soon came the weeks prior to Christmas.
Teddy got antsy when Arthur said he'd be back later. He was going to the department of mysteries to guard the prophecy. He'd done it a handful of times before, but the closer it got to Christmas, the closer it got to when he would eventually get hurt.
The day wore on and the setting sun announced the evening. Molly grew concerned, but not with Arthur being gone so long, with the way Teddy and Victoire were acting to the fact.
"You two, in the kitchen. Now." She demanded.
Molly sat the two down at the small table in the cooking room.
"What is up with you two?" She asked "does it have to do with Arthur?" Before either 21 year old could reply, noises were heard out in the entryway. They jumped up, begging it wasn't one of the Hogwarts professors waiting to tell them about Harry's dream.
It wasn't. It was Arthur himself. They were able to breath easy for a little bit.
The next time they weren't so lucky. Only two days later, Arthur was admitted to St. Mungo's with the nastiest snake bite. Guilt plagued Vic and Teddy. They knew that their grandfather would be OK, but still felt awful he had to suffer.
Harry and the Hogwarts age Weasley children arrived back at Grimmauld Place. Harry was livid. He was traumatized by the scene he had seen played out on the back of his eyelids. He didn't quite know how to cope. The Weasley children cried into each other.
Vic and Teddy avoided them. They didn't quite know what to say. He was approached by Fred, who asked them if he ended up being ok.
"Yes." Teddy said "it takes a little bit, but he'll be fine." A small smile came to the boy's face. It disappeared quickly when he looked back at his siblings. Ginny had fallen asleep on top of George, tears still streaked down her face. Ron's eyes kept drooping, exhausted himself. Georga was staring straight ahead, and gently stroking Ginny's hair. Bill was pacing behind the sofa. Molly was nowhere to be seen. They guessed she was upstairs in her room not willing to cry in front of the children.
