Chapter 37
Victoire WeasleyIn the coming days, Victoire did make it to the library to study. She was almost always joined by Lily, Remus, and Alice. On less frequency, they were joined by Teddy, Marlene, and Peter. Hardly ever did Sirius, James and Dorcas join them. Sirius and James were out causing trouble, and Dorcas was always secretly with Chasity. Occasionally Bill would join the seventh years, but he mostly did his work in silence.
"Argh!" Victoire just burst out one day. Madam Pince shot her several nasty looks. Vic tried her best to ignore the angry librarian. She was on the border of pulling her hair out.
"What's wrong, Vic?" lily sighed, not looking up from her page. She looked exhausted but was completely unwilling to quit.
"This stupid translation for Ancient Runes. Professor Vector gave us review from the first term and I can't remember any of it! I'm going to fail this exam!" Vic shoved the paper she was looking at forcefully into her bag. "Maman would kill me if I got less than perfect. I don't care if she's not here right now, she would travel through time just to whop my ass."
"What? That makes no sense." Bill muttered. It was the first thing he had said since he had sat down. Victoire had forgotten hew was there.
"Uh, I just mean that since it takes a while to get here from France she would go back in time just to find me at this exact moment." Vic improvised
"Wait, you mom is in France? I thought you said she was in England now." Why did Bill have to have such an impressive memory.
"She's back in France visiting my aunt." Victoire told him. Bill opened his mouth to contradict her again but before he could Vic stood up and left. Hastily carrying her books and papers, she made her way to the Great Hall. She saw James, Sirius, Teddy and Peter were all sitting there.
"Are any of you going to pass your N.E.W.T.S.?" she demanded rather forcefully.
"Well of course, dear Victoire." Sirius said "I pride myself on getting good grades even though I do nothing to warrant such grades."
"I hate you." Vic snatched a roll off his plate and sunk her teeth into it.
"Relax Vic," Teddy wrapped his arm around her "You'll pass with flying colours. I'm sure of it."
Suddenly, The Hall broke into chaos. Slughorn ran in Hysterically shrieking at the top of his lungs about the castle being on fire. Dumbledore immediately stood and ordered all the student to evacuate the school. Everyone stood and a frenzy and all tried to push past each other to get out of the castle. Teddy gripped to Victoire tightly and tried to keep her close.
Most of the teachers scattered to try and contain the fire. Dumbledore, however, walked towards Slughorn to get information from him. They were right in from of Victoire and Teddy. Vic pulled on Teddy's arm slightly to get him to stop moving. She wanted to know where the fire was. Upon hearing the location, he eyes widened. She started pulling Teddy through the mass of students. The others they were with were long gone.
"Vic! What the hell? The exit's this way. We have to get outside!"
"The library, Teddy!" Vic shrieked over the noise of the shouts of students exiting the building. "That's where the fire is. That's also where our fathers are. Along with a bunch of our other friends." finally, Teddy agreed. They both sprinted to the library and started calling out the names of their friends.
Lily emerged from the smoke in a coughing fit. They couldn't spot the others though. Vic tried to go into the library but the smoke, combined with several teachers pushing her out, she couldn't. They were forced to go outside.
Before they could see the entrance, they could sure hear it. Not the entrance itself, but James Potter shouting from the entrance.
"My friends are in there!" he shouted "I can't just stay here and wait for their burned bodies to come out!" a quieter voice spoke to him, Sirius.
"Mate, it's a lost cause. Hagrid's not going to let you in, nor should he. You're no use to any of them when you're just as burned." Lily broke out into a run. She ran past the half giant guarding the door from James, and straight into her boyfriend's arms.
"I'm ok, James." She whispered.
"Where are the others?" Sirius asked fretfully. Victoire and Teddy had caught up with Lily.
"Still in there. We couldn't get in the library."
"When I was there, I couldn't see anything through the smoke." Lily gave a small sob "WE got separated rather quickly."
The small group waited. The sat, huddled on the grass just outside the steps, the rest of the student body spread out over the rest of the grass. It felt like forever before four coughing students finally emerged from Hogwarts.
Marlene, Remus, Bill and Alice stumbled down the steps. A lot of hugging later, Peter noticed that someone was missing.
"Where's Dorcas?" He asked
"She wasn't with us." Remus wheezed.

Later, once the students were finally let back inside, once the fire had been controlled and extinguished, the students were gathered in the Great Hall. Dumbledore addressed them, his face solemn. The Gryffindor seventh years all felt worried, Dorcas still hadn't shown up.
"From this fire," Dumbledore said "we have sadly had 5 casualties." a collective gasp whispered through the students. The even sadder thing, was that they would have to get used to losing people they know due to the dreaded war. "Such students include, Jones Theo, Viola Yin, Kaylen Arthurs, Robbin Wade, and Chasity Figg."
Dorcas' name wasn't there. That was a good thing, right? Victoire couldn't decide. The person she loves had just died, she might've done something stupid. For now, she couldn't know.
