Chapter 35
Teddy lupin
"Mr. Luther, if you would kindly hurry up inside." McGonagall's stern voice had a harsher tone than usual.
"Are you okay, professor?" Teddy asked her
"Yes, yes, I'm fine. Miss Tonks, please demonstrate what we learned last class." Their usual Monday lesson went about as usual. McGonagall still had the harsh, almost sad, tone about her. Teddy tried to push it out of his mind but he couldn't help but feel like something was drastically wrong. When the lesson ended, Teddy was packing up his books.
"Mr. Luther, professor Dumbledore would like to speak with you tonight. Head along to his office. Bring Miss, Wilson with you." Teddy nodded and rushed off after muttering a quick goodbye to Tonks and the professor.
He found Vic in the common room playing wizard's chess with Bill. The other seventh years were having a big game of Exploding Snap by the fire and being quite loud over it. Teddy laughed to himself when he saw half of Peter's eyebrow singed off.
"Vic? Dumbledore wants to see us."he told her
"Now?" teddy nodded "Alright." she sighed and moved her king into and obviously easy captured spot. "Checkmate to you, Bill. We can play again some other time."
"I'll hold you to that." Bill warned with a laugh. Vic and Teddy told their friends that they'd be back late and headed off the gargoyle statue.
"What's the password?" Vic asked
"I'm not sure, McGonagall didn't tell me." before they could think of another course of action, a voice came up behind them.
"Ah, Mr. Luther, Miss. Wilson. I'm glad Minerva sent you." Teddy saw two students tailing behind the aging man. One, tall and lanky with greasy black hair draped over half his face, the other a spitting image of Sirius Black. Both dressed in Slytherin robes, and had Professor Horace Slughorn, the potions master, looking over them with slight concern. "Otter Pops." Dumbledore said to the statue.
The other five people followed Dumbledore up the spiraling staircase and sat down on the various seats waiting for them. McGonagall was already there.
"It has come to my attention," Dumbledore spoke "That these two boys here, Mr. Snape and Mr. Black, claim you two to be up to something against the rules here at Hogwarts."
"Sir? What sort of things?" Teddy asked.. He saw the wide eyes looked in Victoire as she connected the face to the name to the legacy of boy the boys sitting next to them. Had Teddy not known any better, he might claim her to be starstruck.
"Being out of bed after dark." The headmaster said calmly "Do you deny such claims.
"Oh, well of course they do." McGonagall spoke before they could interject. "These two are star students. They may not have been here long but they know the rules and they abide by them."
"Minerva, please." Slughorn spoke this time "Let the students answer for themselves!"
"Really, Horace? Are you playing such a favourite card on these two students that you simply must believe every claim they bring to you? Regulus and Severus are just trying to spite Victoire and Teddy. I am appalled you do not see it for yourself."
"I will not deny that both Regulus and Severus are very promising academically, but I disagree that they are trying to spite your Gryffindors. Honestly Minerva, have you ever so much as seen these two exchange words?" Dumbledore held up his hand to silence the two arguing professors. He nodded toward Victoire and Teddy.
"We haven't been out if bed at night, sir."
"Very well. Teachers, if you would please escort your students back to their common rooms. Time is passing on, and I would hate to make these false accusations true."
Wordlessly, the Slytherin split from the Gryffindors. McGonagall looked rather peeved and shook her head. She only spoke once she was sure Slughorn and he boys were out of earshot.
"I apologize for that, you two." she said "I am more than confident you did nothing, but Professor Slughorn seems to have it out for Gryffindor ever since a made a comment about one of his students acting up in my class. I am sure those boys said nothing of the sort, out of bed, my word. He couldn't have even come up with a more creative accusation?" Teddy bot his lip to stop himself from confessing the accusations to be correct. He saw Vic out of the corner of his eye doing the same. "Goodnight you two." Mcgonagall said as she left them at the fat lady. The students mumbled a quick goodnight and said the password to the portrait. They entered the common room to see the situation was much the same as they had left it.
"Quite the charmer of the brother you have, there, Sirius." Teddy plopped himself down on the couch.
"Another reason I wish my last name wasn't Black." Sirius muttered.
"Severus seems nice." Vic added. She sat down beside Lily and took a peek at her cards. James and Sirius snorted loudly.
"Please don't get them started on Snape again." Marlene begged. Lily had noticably kept her head down, as if she was paying no attention to the conversation.
"I don't know, he seems rather, important, as the war goes, I 'spose" Vic shrugged but added nothing more.
"What do you mean?" Dorcas demanded.
"Nah, like you said, don't want James and Sirius to start ranting."
"No, no, we would like to know very much yes please." Sirius nodded eagerly
"Are you sure?" Vic asked again. even Lily looked up now.
Vic lowered her voice slightly and everyone leaned in "Well, a little family story told me, it was Severus Snape who told Harry Potter that he needed to die for Voldemort to die."
"You're kidding me." James deadpanned. "You mean to tell me Snape is a war hero because he told my son to off himself for the sake of the war?"
"Well, almost. I mean it didn't happen quite like that. There was the shrieking shack and a snake and a vial of memories. It was all rather chaotic if you ask me."
"Is she for real?" Sirius turned to Teddy beside him
"Yup. She forgot though, the first person to forgive him was the guy who hated him the most.
"Who's that?" Peter asked
" Mr. Harry Potter himself."
"Total BS." Sirius announced "What could good old Snivellus have done for James Potter's son, mind you that's his SWORN ENEMIE'S SON, to like him."
"Lower your voice Sirius. We don't need all of Gryffindor tower to know."
"That doesn't answer the question, though."
"I think it had to do with the fact he saved Harry's life."
"By telling him he needed to die?" Remus clarified, still riddled with his own disbelief.
"Remus Lupin, you need to be more forgiving." Victoire scolded him "What would your son think?" Remus noticeably paled
"Probably something like 'Why is my dad speaking to me beyond the grave?'" Sirius joked. Teddy hit him in the chest to tel him to shut up.
"I think Remus needs to forgive himself before he can forgive Snape." he said
"I feel like you two are having a completely different conversation to the one we're having." Remus muttered, he returned to staring blankly at his cards.
"I think that's enough cards for tonight." Alice pipped up. "Bed time for the lot of us." no one seemed to argue.
