"I thought another visit was long over due. Is my daughter sick?"

"It definitely wasn't and she's not your daughter. You may have had a part in making her but that doesn't make you a father. Actually providing for a child makes you a father."

In anger, I started cleaning up the mess that the apple juice made on the floor. Luckily I hadn't taken the medicine out of the bottle yet or that would have been a ugly pink stain.

"I would have been able to care for her had you not ran off to another state. You know, I could report you for kidnapping."

"And you know I could have reported you for selling and doing drugs." I stared at him straight in the eye which I knew made him mad. I didn't want to show that I was scared so I let my angry side take over.

"Watch how you are speaking to me Kolby. Don't make me put you in your place."

"See! That, and many other things, is why this would have never worked. You have no power over me anymore. That ended the day I took my daughter and left."

Although I had only been with him less than a month, I could still tell what was going on inside his head. I know that when he is mad he crosses his arms and clenches his jaw repeatedly. His eyes are glued to the thing that is causing this emotion and at this moment, that was me.

He took a few seconds to calm himself down before putting both his arms down on the table and leaned forward.

"Can you at least sit down so we can try to have a civil conversation?" There was still on edge to his voice to show that he meant business.

When he acted like this, I use to listen but I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction so I stayed put where I was standing.

He took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a second before focusing them back on me.

"Fine, stand there then."

The second he said that, I pulled out a chair and sat down.

"Damn it Kolby! Why do you have to be such a child!" He slammed his closed fists down on the table, making me jump.

"What do you want to talk about Jake? You have five minutes before I call the cops and have you rotting behind bars before you know it."

"I want joint custody of Lily."

I couldn't help it, I laughed the hardest I had laughed in a long time, to the point tears were rolling down my face.

"Keeping laughing Kolby, it's going to happen. I know people. I will get my daughter rather you like it or not."

"And then what Jake?! I know you're still part of a gang and you sell drugs. On top of that you're a drug addict and alcoholic. You won't be able to take care of her."

"If I can't then I have people who can."

That pissed me off. He thought he was going to take my daughter and have other people take care of her, meaning the bitches in his gang.

"Why do you want her so bad Jake? Go have another kid and maybe it'll be a boy and then you can teach him your ways." I knew that wasn't a good thing to say but I would say anything at this point to get him to leave.

"Who says I haven't already? Anyways, I could find something for Lily to do."

"Over my dead body."

"That could be arranged."

My blood ran cold as his evil smile, that I knew all to well, spread across his face. Half a second passed before I was up and running towards my bag which contained my phone.

I barley got out of the dining room before I was grabbed from behind and picked up off the floor. My elbows and feet instantly started swinging backwards trying to make contact with his body.

My right elbow successfully cracked his nose and in the heat of the moment, he dropped me.

Ignoring the pain in my knees, I reached for my bag, my finger tips barley brushing the rough material before I was being dragged backwards.

The next second he was on top of me, legs pining my knees together and hands around my wrists holding them to the floor.

His nose was dripping blood onto my white shirt, instantly staining it.

"Remember the last time we were in the position?" He laughed, causing blood to dot my face. "You told me you were pregnant and I freaked out huh?"

"Get off of me Jake." I tried to sound calm but I knew my voice was shaking.

Flashbacks of that night were trying to crawl into my mind but I ignored them. I didn't want to remember that night and I especially didn't want to let my guard down.

"Why? I kind of like it when you can't move."

When I wasn't expecting it, he let go of both my wrists and his hands closed around my throat. He didn't completely cut off my oxygen but enough to get me to stop wiggling under him.

"Choose your answers carefully. Can Lily come live with me?"

"Fuck no."

He instantly applied pressure, "we'll try it again."

"Can Lily come live with me?"

Instead of letting go, he continued to choke me, making me unable to talk. I knew he was trying to knock me out because Lily was already upstairs so all he had to do was get her and go. I couldn't let that happen.

I closed my eyes and mentally took a breath. I needed to get out of this and fast, I was already losing consciousness.

My mind instantly went back to practice, when me and Downie were jokingly fighting. I remembered how he caught me off guard and I suddenly had an idea.

Opening my eyes, I quickly reached up and grabbed his shirt and pulled it over his head, covering his eyes. He was caught off guard and instead of punching him like I knew he thought I would do, I shot my knee up into his crotch as hard as I could.

I couldn't even describe the sound that came out of his mouth as he let go of my neck and fell to the side of me, grabbing his crotch.

Not even a second passed before I was up and grabbing my bag. Instead of trying to get my phone, I ran straight up the stairs and into Lily's room, quickly, but quietly, closing the door and locking it.

I kept my back against the door as I grabbed my phone. I struggled to unlock my phone for a minute and when I was about to call 911, I heard someone calling me from downstairs.

"Dad?!" I opened Lily's door and sure enough, my dad was coming up the stairs.

"Kolby, what happened? Why are you covered in blood and why are their hand prints around your neck?!"

Confused, I ran around him and halfway down the stairs to peek into the living room but there was no sign of Jake.

"You didn't see him?! How did he get away so fast?!"

"See who Kolby?! Talk to me!"

"Jake! He was here and he kept trying to get me to give him custody of Lily. Don't worry, it's his blood."

"Jake?! How did he get in the house?!" He looked panicked as he grabbed a towel and quickly cleaned off my face. "Did he hurt Lily?"

"No dad, he didn't even see her." Grabbing the bottom of my chin, he lifted my head slowly. His eyes softened and filled with tears. "Don't cry, I'm okay. I've had worse."

I tried to laugh but he didn't follow, instead his tears fell and he pulled me in for a hug.

"God Kolby, I'm supposed to be protecting you. I promised your dad I would."

"Listen to me, I'm fine. Okay? I just, I need you to do me a favor. Watch Lily?"

"Where are you going?"

"I need to go finish this and I know someone who can help me."
