After I got home, I put on my work clothes. Yep. I work at Wendy's. I am a cashier. Hey, it's not much, but it gets the bills paid. And it's five bucks an hour. Which I work eight hours and that's $40 a day so yeah. I get my work done.
Work took up the other large spaces in my life.
When I got to work, my manager, Kelly, yelled, "Alexis! We are short staff and here you come running in late! Make that 15 minutes off your lunch break!"
I wasn't late. I was supposed to get there at nine o'clock, but it was 9:03. Geez Kelly! Not that big of a deal!
At around 12:00, everything failed. There were seventeen angry people at the drive through. I was making the fries, so that wasn't my problem. People started yelling because they weren't getting their food. We gave them their food at no cost to them and closed early. We had a staff meeting. Also, I said earlier how I was cashier, I switched to kitchen. During this staff meeting, everything was pinpointed on me. "You forgot to wait on the people," Vanessa, assistant manager, said. "I was on kitchen duty. You were supposed to be on cash register," I said. Vanessa lowered her head while eyes fell on her, away from me for once.
"Look, I'll explain," I said after a long period of silence, "after lunch, Vanessa offered to switch me spots, and I agreed. I went back and picked up where she left off on the fries. I guess she thought she was going to take my break time. She waited on no one. Don't pinpoint all of this on me!" Kelly sat there staring blankly at Vanessa. "We are closing tomorrow and starting fresh Wednesday. Do your job right and no mistakes. One more day like today, and people are losing jobs!" she stated and stormed out. Everybody left. I hurried home. 10:30 at night. And everything was taken from me.
When I got home I collapsed on my bed and cried. I needed Josh more than ever right now. Even though the murderer was now locked up for life, that wasn't enough. He took away a part of me that would never be filled. Josh was my world, my life, my sun, my moon, my everything. And now all of those things were gone forever.
