Chapter 11: I am surprised

2 Days later

"Hey, Alex. My friend, Kristin is running for Snow Princess, and she wanted me to ask you who exactly she is up against," I said to my new friend at Neptune High. "Sure. There's three other candidates for the Snow Princess: Megan Little, Rose Evanwood, and the Gamer Girl. Megan Little: head cheerleader. She won last year, by bribing guys. She didn't really say what, but it must've been effective. Plus, she scares every girl in this school. She doesn't like it when you take your seat. I know I saved you a couple days ago, but that was a one time thing. Megan said that if I do that again, she'll get me suspended for a month. Rose Evanwood: she deserves the crown. She's super nice to everyone, but she's a little on the quirky side. And Gamer Girl. No one knows who she is, but she's sure got the attention of all the gamers at our school. She's holding a contest saying that one lucky voter gets some weird new game. Considering the number of gamers at our school, she has a pretty good chance of winning. Her identity is the biggest mystery though. Everyone is on the fritz trying to guess who it is."

"Well who do you think it is?"

"I don't know, but whoever they are, they've got the majority of the school wrapped around their finger. You've got to give them credit for that." "Yeah. Hey, have you seen Carter anywhere? I haven't seen him since last night."

"No, not really."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing. Anyway, I've got to go do the announcements. Someone told someone to tell me to you that you should watch it." As soon as she said that, Alex started giggling like crazy. That was weird. I grabbed my books from my locker and headed to homeroom where the announcements had started. Everyone was waiting in their chair, watching and listening to the television. As soon as the weather report started, Clay tapped me on the back. "Hey, can you take this to the front office for me? Thanks." He handed me a yellow piece of paper with some random words on it. I turned around to face him. "Okay. I'll take it back after the announcements." Clay's eyes got wide. "No. I mean, you have to take it there now... Because uh... Because the principal... uh... asked for it... during the announcements." What was going on? Reluctantly, I got up out of my chair. "Miss Ferguson, where do you think you're going?" I stopped cold. Clay got up out of his chair, ran over to Mrs. Addison and whispered something in her ear, which oddly enough, changed her mind. She practically squealed with excitement, and let me go to the front office. I could still hear the announcements over the intercom. There was a large flat screen in the middle of the hallway displaying a girl with a horrible case of acne predicting the weather. I reached the door to the front office as soon as it finished. "And now for a special report with Carter Smith," the voice on the intercom announced. As soon as I opened the door, I found Connor in a baseball tee and a beanie. He was holding a microphone and a rose, and standing in front of Bri, who was holding a camera. "Hi, I'm Carter Smith, and this is a very special report of Neptune News. We are standing here with Jessica Ferguson, my girlfriend. Say hi, Jessie." He put the microphone in front of my mouth, as his sparkling eyes fell on me. All I could manage to say was, "Uhhhmm...what's going on here?" Connor gave the mic to the Bri, and she held it up so that everyone could hear what we were saying. Connor turned to face me, and held my hand. His blue eyes gazed intently on my caramel ones. "Jessie, we have known each other for two months now, and we're really close. And I know you said that we have to focus on our...studies, and that our relationship is perfect the way it is. But it's not. We haven't even been on an official date yet. Which is why, I am asking..." Connor got down on one knee and offered me the rose. I swear I almost cried when I realized what he was doing. "Will you go the Winter Formal with me?" At that point, no one was in the room, but me and him. My heart started beating a hundred times faster as I answered the question. "Yes, I will go to the Winter Formal with you." I accepted the rose as Connor got up, smiling from ear to ear. We kissed, and a thousand butterflies fluttered in my stomach. Reality slowly came back to me, revealing that everyone in the front office was clapping. I unfolded the yellow piece of paper. It read:

Jessie,

This piece of paper is meant only as your excuse to go to the office. There isn't actually a paper you have to bring there. :) Your Brother

That wonderful, sneaky, little son of a bitch. Connor took back the microphone. "Back to you, Jack."

Connor walked me back to my room. "That was really sweet of you. Thank you," I said, holding his hand and resting my head on his shoulder. "You've thanked me a thousand times already. And I've said a thousand times that you deserve it." People and teachers in the hallway smiled at us and waved, and it was like the whole world was as happy as we were. As I walked into the classroom with Connor, everyone started applauding. Everyone except for Megan, who was angrily texting something underneath her desk. I walked to my seat, looking at the ground, blushing like crazy. I waved goodbye to Connor as he left, closing the door behind him. For the rest of the day, I couldn't stop smiling and thinking about Clay and Bri and Alex and especially Connor. They had all worked together to surprise me. It's a little weird that Alex was involved, but necessary since she's pretty much the head of Neptune News. But no matter how sweet it was, it wasn't getting us any closer to finding the third petal.
