Chapter 17: I am done with Megan

The four of us ran towards the back door. As soon as we were all outside, Megan stopped us. "Why leaving so soon, Jessie?" I didn't have time for this. And I was just about done with Megan's attitude. "You know what, b****? This is my last day here, so I've got nothing to lose. I'm just going to tell it to you straight." I looked around to make sure no one was watching us or listening. "My brother and I can literally light on fire," I said, my hand bursting into flames. "We can burn your v***** off. My best friend can choke you with a tree branch so hard, your head will explode like that huge zit on your head. My boyfriend can pick you up by your pretty little a** and throw you to Spain. I have an entire League of superheroes behind me who could litterally rip all of your limbs off and crush them one by one with their pinkies. You DON'T want to be messing with me. You got that?" Megan just stared at me in terror. "Yeah, okay, I'll just be in th- YOU GUYS!" She screamed as she ran back into the gym. "Allison, you weren't supposed to tell anyone about us!" Bri hissed.

"Maybe not, but that was a pretty bad*** speech. And besides who's going to believe her?" Clay defended for me. "You guys. We were going after Jayden... Anyone remember that?" Connor reminded us. I saw a shadow in the woods for a second, then it ran off. "Come on." We all sprinted towards the shadow. "You know, it's time like this where you wish you had Wally," Connor said as he ran. Clay ran the fastest, and was getting closer to the shadow. The shadow started slowing down, until it came to a complete stop at what seemed to be a campsite. I finally caught up and got a closer look. Ellie was tied to a tree with a gag in her mouth. The shadow from before wasn't Jayden. It was a man, with a black bandana covering half of his face, so you could only see his eyes. He was dressed in all black, which gave the impression that he was a ninja. There were nine others, dressed exactly like him. Jayden was sitting back in a chair. Soon, we were surrounded by all of them. It was a trap.

The four of us stood back to back, whispering our plans. "Bri, look. Ellie's tied to a TREE." "I'll take three, you take three, you take three, and you go after Jayden and Ellie." None of us actually went with the plan. I eyed Clay's hands, and they were already glowing red. "I'm fired up. How about you?" He asked me. My fist ignited. Bri made the first move. She held out her hand, so that her palm faced the ground, and moved her arm around. Her movements seemed to control the roots of the tree. She moved it around, and eventually, one of the roots untied the rope, and Ellie was free. The ninjas attacked all at once. Two of them turned towards me. They were swift and agile with every move. I turned my hand, and the fire lifted off of it. I made it bigger and hurled it at the enemy. I didn't want my own fire to burn my dress. Clay was doing the same. Connor was dodging really well, but they were too fast, so he never got to attack. Bri was doing all sorts of flips and cartwheels. She didn't have much luck with attacking either. If we could never attack, how would we beat them? We had as much energy as they did, so it wouldn't be easy to tire them out.. Every time we beat them, there were either new ninjas, or they got up again. It was like the tiger attack last summer. They just wouldn't die. We had to trap them just to escape. They were like mindless killing machines. The only attacks that we were able to make were ones with fire. And even the fire didn't hold them off for too long. But it was our only shot. The fight went on for a while. I was starting to get tired of dodging and jumping and ducking and blocking. I could see that everyone else felt the same. Connor finally managed to knock one ninja out, but another attacked alomst immediately after. Just then, the ninjas had me down on the ground. I was sprawled on the ground, with my head inches away from the camp fire. I felt the pressure of a shoe on top of my stomach. I saw the glint of a blade that was unsheathed. "Allison!" I heard Clay say. "What? I'm kind of busy here!"

"I need help!"

"So do I!"

"No! I've heard that there are these black flames that can destroy anything! You have to eat the fire to get it!"

"WHAT?"

"EAT THE FIRE! I can't reach it from here! You have to eat it so we can beat these guys!"

"YOU'RE CRAZY!"

"OF COURSE I AM, I'M YOUR BROTHER. I know I haven't been a very good one, but you have to trust me on this!"

"Fine, but how do you even eat it?"

"Just suck it in."

I did what I thought he asked me to do, and the fire danced in a little tornado into my mouth, and I swallowed. At first it felt hot, and then there was a bubbling in my stomach. All of a sudden, my hand burst into black flames. No way. It felt like I had eaten the best meal in the world. Energy flowed back into me. I wasn't tired anymore. I hurled a fire ball towards the two ninjas. The minute it made contact with their skin, it turned to acid and burned a hole right through them. They collapsed onto the ground. It was working. As soon as another charged at me, I took a deep breath and blew. Black fire shot out of my mouth and hit the ninja, who melted to the ground. I had an idea. If I could swallow fire, then maybe Clay could too. "Clay! Head's up!" I warned him. I threw a black fire ball towards him, and he ate it. Immediately, I could see fire blazing in his eyes. There was a small black explosion, and three ninjas were blown back. When the smoke cleared, I saw Clay, with his entire body engulfed in black fire. As much as I didn't want my dress to burn down, I had to help. I let the fire spread to my entire body. I felt all of my bruises and cuts going away. The ringing in my ear had stopped. I went to go help Bri, and Clay helped Connor. Bri was almost on the ground. She saw me coming and flikced her wrist. Saplings grew out of the ground and wrapped themselves around the ninjas' legs. Fire shot out of my mouth and they melted into ashes. In mere minutes, all of the ninjas were either burned into acid or knocked out on the ground. The four of us were out of breath. Ellie stepped out of the shadows. "Wow! I didn't know you guys could fight like that! I thought you were just temporary high school students." I looked at Bri. Her wig was still on. "Tell her," I managed to say. Bri walked towards Ellie and took off her wig. "I'm Kristin. Well actually, I'm not. None of us are actually high school students. We're Clay, Connor, Bri, and Allison. Not James, Carter, Kristin, and Jessie." Ellie was shocked. This kind of reminded me of that old show Hannah Montana where Miley takes off her wig and reveals she is Hannah. "But you told me that Bri has brown eyes, and that Allison has dark brown eyes too," she said walking over to me and looking at my eyes. "Contacts. And Connor's earrings are fake."

"But why? Why did you have to go undercover?"

"We needed a way to find you without getting caught by the Skull Man. This was the only way. We're sorry if we hurt you."

"So you guys did this just you would protect me?"

"Yeah."

"Then I'm okay with it." All of us were silent for a while, until I heard a crack. Jayden was standing by the fire, his finger lingering over his watch. "He's getting away!" The five of us got up. I grabbed Jayden's arm, Bri grabbed my leg, there was a flash, and all of a sudden we weren't in the woods anymore.
