Chapter 13: I am being watched

It was fourth period: the last class of the day, and the only class I had with Connor. The boy behind me gave me a note. I shoved the note beneath my desk, so that Mr. Eisenwald would not see it. It said:

To Jessie

When I opened it, it read:

Jessie,

Something's going on. Meet me after class.

- C

At the end of class, I met up with Connor like he said. "What did you mean something's going on?" I asked him curiously. "Glad you asked. I was on my way to class, when I saw one of the football players in the hallway talking to Ellie, from yesterday. I thought they were just talking, so I kept walking. But then Jayden, the quarterback, slammed her locker door, and started screaming at her for some reason. So I went over there to tell him to knock it off. Ellie ran away, and then it was just me and Jayden. He asked me what was wrong, and I said that nothing was wrong, and that I just didn't like how he was treating Ellie. So he just told me that I need to loosen up. He asked me what my problem was, and said that for a second he actually thought that I could be one of them. I'm not so sure he was talking about the football team."

"Why would you say that?"

"Because he's different. His skin is paler than everyone else, and the color of his eyes were more faded. It's almost like he's a ghost. I don't have a good feeling about him. Just promise you'll stay away from him."

I sighed. I wasn't sure if he was right, but I trusted him. "Okay. I'll steer clear of Jayden." He gave me a quick kiss and ran off. "Thanks. I'll see you after football practice. You should head outside. I think Bri should be there by now."

I met up with Ellie at the front of te school, so I could take her to meet Bri at the back of the school. She kept blabbing on and on about some video game and this youtuber named Jordan (I think). When we got to the back I told her to wait, and then she started freaking out. "Oh my gosh. I'm not ready yet. Do I look good? What do I do? What do I say? Help me Jessica!" I sighed. "You look fine. And I have a feeling you'll know what to say. Why are you so nervous? It's not like you're speed dating."

"I know, but first impressions are very important to me." On that note, I left to go find Bri. I found her by the dumpster at the back of the school; her wig and contacts were gone. She had even bothered to change her clothes. "Is she here?" she asked me, as she saw me walking towards her. "Yeah, I told her to stay by the side of the building," I replied. We started walking back to Ellie. "So are you going to take off your disguise?" She asked, looking at my fake glasses, white dress, and denim vest. "No, I'll introduce you guys, then leave. I'll wait for you at the flagpole. You're going to tell her everything except for the fact that we're undercover in the school. And make sure she keeps it all a secret. Don't tell her we're disguised. Think of Jessie and Kristin and Carter and James as completely different people, so that in case she blabs about it at school, we can easily deny it happened." We finished reviewing just in time. "Ellie this is Bri, Bri this is Ellie. I have to go. Bri wants to talk to you about something." I ran around the side of the building, so that they wouldn't see me, and I listened in on their conversations.

"Oh my gosh. You- You look like me!"

"Yeah. And you look like me."

"Why?"

"It's a long story, but okay. So my dad is Batman."

"No way! I love Batman!"

"You don't say! Anyway, my Dad is Batman, and he works with the Justice League."

"I know! I've read every single DC Nation comic there is."

"But I'm pretty sure that this one, isn't in a comic book... Yet."

"Wow! So this is like an exclusive story!"

"Sure... So anyway..."

Bri told Ellie the whole story. The Justice League, the petals, the Skull Man, and our little adventure from two months ago.

"No way. So I can control either air or water? Well, I've always felt at home at the sea. I grew up right next to it. But still, the fact that I can control it?"

"Deny it all you want, it's true."

"That's awesome!"

"Wait what?"

"That's so cool!"

"Okay, but you can't tell anyone about this. You can only talk to me or Jessica about this. No one else, not even your parents. We'll tell them eventually, but not now."

"I can't tell my family? I'll try, I guess."

"Great. At the end of December, meet me back here, so we can get you back to headquarters. We'd get you there sooner, but I have a feeling that Jessie wants to go to the school dance."

She got that right.

"Cool! So am I like a super spy now with a really big secret."

"Sure... let's call it that."

"So are you like my secret friend now?"

"I guess so..."

"Good, because there's this really big secret that I've been keeping and I just have to tell someone or I'll die."

"What is it?"

Ellie whispered something in Bri's ear.

"Shhh! Don't tell anyone!"

"Seriously? You? Okay, I won't tell. I've gotta run. I'll see you around."
