Chapter 14: I am blamed
All four of us were back at the mansion, in the living room. Connor, Bri, and I were telling Clay about Ellie, Megan, and Jayden. Clay didn't react much other than a simple "okay"s. When we finished explaining, he thought of something. "What if Megan and Jayden are working for the Skull Man? I mean Megan's been mean to Allison all year, because we all have a connection with her. Could it be that maybe she's trying to drive us out of the school so that they can take Ellie back first? And maybe Jayden is mean to Ellie so that she'll stay under their control." It did make sense. "But what makes you so sure that they're from the Skull Man's planet? By the way is that what we're calling him now?" Bri asked.
"I don't know. It's got a nice ring to it," Connor replied.
"I used to work for him. I've been to his world once, and I do know a thing or two about how it works. Earth and their world are two completely different worlds. Earth is the planet for the Living, and their world is called the After world. It's called that because that's where you go after you live. Once you die here, your soul goes to the After world. In the After world, it looks just like this one, except people are a lot older because a lot of people die of old age. If you die with a disease, your disease is cured in the After World."
"That sounds nice."
"We're getting to the bad part. Anyway, so you live in the After World once you die. If you die in the After World, you get reborn into Earth as a whole new person. Between our worlds is a gate. Only the people that have died in their worlds can pass through. But there are some people who can pass through alive. See, the Earth's Death planet is the After World, and the After World's death planet is Earth. If someone from their planet were to pass through the gate assuming they're still alive in their planet, they'll look like a ghost. The longer they stay in the wrong world, the more faded they become. It's like a dying phone. You can still use it, but every now and then it needs to be plugged in."
"I think I get it now. So that's why I thought Jayden looked like a ghost."
"Or he could just be sick. It's a really good theory, but we need absolute proof that Jayden and Megan actually work for the Skull Man." We all agreed that we shouldn't jump to conclusions, and on that note, we all turned in for the night.
"Hey there, Best Friend!" I heard from behind my locker door. I moved it to see Megan standing there with a gushing smile on her face. "So, I really think we got off on the wrong foot. Want to be friends?" This is really weird. She was being all sweet to me. Either this was a prank, or the world has gone insane. "Sure, I guess," I said suspiciously. I decided to play along and see where this was going. "Friendship hug?" She held out her arms. She wrapped her arms around me. This was so confusing. One day she's telling me to get out of her seat and blaming the spaghetti toss on me. Next day, she's offering to be my friend? "I've got to run. See you later best friend!" she said as she ran down te hall. just as she left, Clay walked up to me. "What was that about?" I shrugged, "I don't really know. she just came up to me and asked if we could be friends and then hugged me.
"That doesn't sound like het at all." I turned back to my locker to see that there was a can of black graffiti in my locker. "I didn't put this in here. I don't think it was in here a minute ago." I took it out to see if there was some label or clue that would tell me who it belonged to. "There they are. They did this," I heard Megan say. I turned around to see Megan with Principal Howard. "They were ones who sprayed that horrible message on the teacher's lounge door."
"What are you talking about what message?"
"Like you don't know. You know exactly what you wrote on the door in black graffiti."
"Why do you assume I did it?"
I looked at the can of black graffiti in my hand. That was a stupid question. "Why are you blaming me? Jessie's the one with the graffiti in her hand!" I glared at Clay. How could he do this to me?!"That is true. So it must've been Jessie."
"Principal Howard, it's not what it looks like. Someone put this in my locker! I was framed!"
"Miss Ferguson, I can forgive spilling spaghetti on Miss Little, but spraying that on the door to the teachers lounge is unforgivable."
"Sir, believe me, I have no idea ehat you're talking about!" He grabbed my hand and walked me to the teachers lounge door. Everyone else followed. Sprayed on the door, in black graffiti, was the message:
Joe Howard has a Big D
"Three weeks of detention. I'm calling your parents."
"Sir! It wasn't me!"
"Do you have proof that you didn't do it."
I sighed. "No sir."
"Then report to the detention room right after school." Everyone left except for me and Clay. I glared at Clay. I wanted to choke him so bad right now. "What did I do?" And he didn't even know what he did! I was so mad all I could say was "GAHHHH!" and storm off.
