Prologue

Kate's P.O.V

Here I am, standing in the middle of my empty room. Looking around all that's left is my naked mattress laying on my bed frame, the little night stand next to it bare along with my small desk across my small room.

I've lived here most of my life, since I was five. This house seemed huge back then, but now that I'm all grown up it grew smaller. I sighed I'm really going to miss this place. Looking around one last time, I picked up my last box containing miscellaneous stuff and headed downstairs.

"Kate come on! The U-Haul is ready! Come on we need to leave!" my nestfriend (yes with an "N" it's a long story) Stephanie shouted from outside.

Stephanie and I have been best friends since I could remember, about twelve years now, and we have decided to move to Chicago for a year. It's always been a dream of ours since we were little kids.

I remember the first day of first grade like it was yesterday. The teacher told everyone to introduce themselves and when she said she liked cupcakes I knew we would be great friends! Yes I know it sounds childish but I was young and practically anything amazed me!

We always ate lunch together and played together in recess. We didn't need anyone else. But then one day she moved. She didn't even tell me, I was heartbroken.

She came back a year later, but it didn't last long she left again.

I soon became used to her coming back and leaving, her dad always got transferred. When she returned in the sixth grade she looked different. She gained a little weight after being gone for over two years people made fun of her but I didn't care. And so, our friendship only grew stronger. That's when we became nestfriends. You see long story short it was all because of an auto correct and it kind of stuck.

That was the first time I actually met her parents, and right from the beginning they didn't like me. Jeez you break a blender one time and you get labeled. You see I might be a quiet person but when I'm with Stephanie I can be my self. I can go crazy till I see the sun and she wouldn't mind but just laugh along with me.

She left again but only to never come back. We still kept in touch. In fact we got in trouble for being too in touch, late night phone and skype calls were the usual. Sure we had our fair share of problems but I think Stephanie always had it harder. Considering her weight people always made fun of her. I rememeber her calling me in the middle of the night and crying to me.

Those weren't her proudest moments but it made her who she was today. She got her shit together and started to love who she was and not care what other people think. She even started to watch what she ate and exercise and heck she even looked like a model.

Soon we graduated high school and quickly went to research apartments in Chicago. We found the perfect one and rented it. She flew down to Texas and we decided to go up together. You may wonder why we aren't going to college, well we decided to take something like a gap year and then go to school after wards. We've been saving up money since we were fifteen!

And here we are headed towards our dream city full of possibilities.

"Kate!" I heard a voice call. Groaning I turned over and snuggled my face into my seat as I heard the voice call and cars drive by.

Wait seat? Cars?

My eyes fluttered open and the first thing I saw was a huge building. It looked old and fragile, like any rough contact could cause the whole building to collapse.

Turning around I saw a smiling Stephanie.

"UGH. What are you smiling about?" I croaked. Clearing my throat I drank some of my Arizona. Of course it's warm now.

"We have arrived! Now get your butt in gear and let's get a move on!" she chirpped and jumped out.

"Yeah sure I'll go and park on the garage." I said tired. Looking at the time on my phone it read "10:42". Damn that means she's been driving since yesterday at this time. How did she do it?

Looking in the rear view mirror making sure there aren't any cars behind me and saw about five large coffee cups in the back seat. That explains it, Stephanie has always had an obsession with coffee. Putting the U-Haul in reverse I escaped from the tight space and made a U-turn for the parking garage.

As soon as I had arrived I sent a quick text to my mom assuring her we were still alive. Seeing that Stephanie hasn't quite returned I decided to look through tumblr.

Turns out one direction is somewhere here in Chicago! Must not fan girl! Yeah Stephanie and I are quite the fans but we wouldn't call ourselves obsessed.

" I'm back!" sing songed Stephanie as she approached the U-Haul.

" You won't believe what I just read!" I yelled.
