Only Now Exists (One Direction Fanfiction)

Chapter 10

Kate's P.O.V.

"Katherine" a familiar voice says. No one's called me Katherine since -

"It's me Sawyer!" he exclaims. I look up and sure enough it was Sawyer. "Remember me?" he asks with that gorgeous smile. Oh God. He is so gorgeous. I haven't seen him since junior year. He was a transfer student from Spain.

He went to the nearby art college but since he didn't finish his fifth year in art he came to my class to finish or some shit like that. The point is we kind of had a thing. We were just friends just talking like normal friends do. Later on we went on a couple dates and soon enough we were a couple. Things were great and I really fell for him.

Although things were going great and I was in love, four months later he graduated and left town without warning. Sure I was upset but I knew it was for the best. I mean he was five years older than me. we were bound to break up eventually and saying goodbye would make it worse and further my heartbreak.

Even though this occurred a year ago, I still never really got over him.

"Kate. Are you okay?" Stephanie asks nudging me with her elbow. I didn't even notice I was staring at him. "H-hey Sawyer. Long time no see," I say uncomftorably, " how have you been?" 

"You know Sawyer?" Joey asked. I nodded and looked at Sawyer. "Yeah we had an art class together." I explained. "Yeah Katherine here was amazing at sculpting! Anyways I'm good. I've been traveling Europe since I graduated col-" 

"High school!" I cut him off, "Since you graduated high school yeah I remember you were talking about that." I say panicking. 

"We graduated two weeks ago. You traveled all of Europe in that period?" asked Stephanie arching an eyebrow. "Actually," Sawyer began. I searched my brain for an explanation.

"Sawyer is a year older than us!" I exclaimed, "Yeah he was a senior and I was a junior. We were really great friends!" I say rushed. "Sawyer can I talk to you for a minute?" I say and stand up going outside. I awaited for him to come join me. That was a close one! Stephanie doesn't know about Sawyer. I didn't want her to know.

Yeah I know that best friends do not keep secrets from each other, but I didn't want her to judge me for dating a guy who was way older than me. Plus, if I tell her now she might be hurt that I kept it from her all this time.

Sawyer walks out of the restaurant and smiles at me. I almost melt at how attractive he looks but I shake my head to snap myself out of it.

"Look my friend doesn't know about us. At all. She doesn't even know that we had class together, or that we used to be a couple, especially that you're five years older than me! So I would like to keep it that way." after I finish he steps closer and smirks. "Oh Katherine you haven't changed at all. Always so cautious." he says in his sexy Spanish accent. " I won't say anything to anyone." he promises.

I nod and turn start to walk past him towards the entrance. "Kate!" Sawyer calls, comes to me, and pulls me into his arms.

"I'm sorry I left without warning. I wanted to tell you so bad but..." he trails off and continues hugging me. "It's fine Sawyer. I got over it." I lied. It wasn't fine. I wasn't over it. Somewhere inside of me, deep inside of me I was still in love with him. Even after all this time I never got over him. YOu know that saying "You never forget your first love." ? Yeah, it's true.

We pull away and head back inside the restaurant. Upon arriving I see Joey and Stephanie laughing. I guess they really did act like adults and moved on.

"Hey guys!" Stephanie says as we sit down, "You don't mind if Joey and Sawyer sit with us do you?" she asks with a hopeful smile. I sigh in defeat and shake my head.

We spent another hour or so talking with the boys. Well it was more like catching up.

"So," Sawyer starts, "what are you two ladies doing in Chicago?" Not feeling like explaining the whole story I look over at Stephanie waiting on her answer. "We decided to take a gap year and have a sort of vacation in Chicago. You know, sort of a break from all the years of school." she says and takes a sip from her drink. 

"What are you doing in Chicago?" I asked them in return. "Well we have some friends that moved here for the summer. We are here for a week visiting them. Actually, we're going to see them tomorrow morning." Joey explains.

We talk a bit more with the boys and then we decide to leave since it was getting dark. When we got home I immediately fell on the couch. I was exhausted even though I was sitting for the past three hours or so. For some reason going out always takes the energy out of me. Stephanie just heads to her room. A couple minutes later I hear her coming out of her bedroom and enter the restroom. 

I just kept laying on the couch not even moving. A few more moments later Stephanie finally came out wearing her pajamas and her face was bare. I almost never saw Stephanie with a naked face. She always had that make-up crap on her face. Don't get me wrong she looked really great in make-up, even without it she was pretty. I never really understood why she wore it but apparently she needs to cover up her "flaws". As if!

"C'mon Kate!" she said and sat on my back. "Ahh! What?!" I said not being able to breath since she sat right where my lungs were located. "Go get changed into your jammies because we are having a movie night!" she said excitedly while standing up and going to the kitchen. I got up and dragged myself to my room. I quickly changed and washed my face. 

I come out to see our coffee table full of food. "What the?" I said and sat down observing the variety. "Where did all this come from?" I asked and once I saw the Rocky Road ice cream my mouth started watering. Then I started thinking what happened last time I was eating that ice cream.

Should I tell her about what happened? I decided that I needed to. I couldn't keep anymore secrets from her.

"Stephanie?" I say. She looked at me and nodded. "Where did you get all this food?" Ugh! I couldn't do it! I mentally kicked myself and started mustering up the courage.

"Well when I came back from breakfast with Liam I mentioned that I had to go grocery shopping when I got back. He was kind enough to come with me. I kept all the food at his place because I knew once you saw it you would freak and-" 

"Louis and I almost kissed!" I blurted out cutting her off and covered my mouth not believing what I just said.

"What?" she asked staring at me. "How? Why?" she said sitting down next to me. "Well you were out with Liam and we didn't have food so I went across the hall and Harry answered and I asked him for food and he let me inside but he had to leave and I thought I was alone in the apartment and when I started to eat the ice cream Louis came out wearing nothing but sweats and I freaked and asked him what he was doing there which is kind of stupid since it was his house and we ended up eating ice cream together and getting to know each other and next thing I new he was leaning into me and we were close but then I realized that I didn't know the guy and I just put a spoonful of ice cream in my mouth and left!" I said panting. Wow I couldn't believe I said all of that in one breath!

I look at Stephanie and all she did was stare at me with her eyes wide. "You!? And Louis!?" she screamed at me. "I knew it! You like him!" she said smiling at me evilly. "No I don't!" I said and covered my face with my hands. 

"Well you must like him enough to kiss him!" she said and stuck her tongue out at me playfully. I groaned, "I didn't kiss him! He kissed me! And we didn't kiss we almost did!" I exclaimed. She just laughed at me, "Whatever you say." she said with a smirk.

"Ugh! Let's just start  the movie!" I say and reach over for a bag of chips.]
