She looked around at all the other witches and warlocks. They were all talking and walking around.

"Alright, can everybody settle down please?" Bekas’ voice said from behind her. "Please, settle down, settle down," Marni took a seat next to a young witch. She had long black hair and was looking quite pleased and happy with herself. She had obviously just mastered a new spell. “OK, good, so as you can see we have a new member, her name is Marni, and, in theory, she could be more powerful than all of you put together.” Beka spoke calmly, like she was commenting on the weather, rather than telling Marni she is the most powerful witch in the room.

“WHAT! How can I be more powerful than everyone here! I’m 13!”

“So? Age has nothing to do with your power. What level are you?”

“Um, only 12.” Marni blushed as she said her words. She didn’t notice everyone around her mouths drop. The witch that had looked pleased now looked like she was about to cry.

“12!” Shouted a witch from in front of Marni, “I’m 27 and I’m only level 10! How can you be level 12?” The witches smile faded into an evil grin. “Prove it, do a level 12 spell.” Marni looked at Beka.

“Um… OK, what should I do? I could teleport my pet here. That’s a level 12 right?”

“NO! That’s level 13!” The smug witch was getting angrier now.

“Oh, well I must level 13 then, yay! Anyway on with the spell.” Marni started to mumble some words. The wind suddenly picked up around her, and a lot of witches jumped behind the sofas. With a sudden flash of light an animal appeared.

“That’s your pet? What are you, a tamer? It’s huge.”

“Wow, I was aiming for my dog, Jimmy not Chloe! Don’t worry, she won’t bite,” She turned to the huge creature stood in the middle of the room, “will you? No you won’t, no you won’t. Plus she’s house trained.” Marni added, calmly. All the witches stood there and stared at the pet she was so friendly with.

“You have a pet DRAGON? Whose HOUSE TRAINED??? WHAT?” A warlock shouted at Marni. Some of the others were starting to move around now, and as the Dragon looked around at them Marni started to talk.

“Everyone, this is Chloe, my Dragon. She won’t harm you, in fact she loves attention. The worse she’ll do it lick you, but Dragon saliva is great for healing. Yes, I’m a tamer, but I don’t tend to advertise it. My blood is … rare and valuable. Many people want me dead. Hanging with me is like putting your head on a plate. I have no friends, and have learned to love no-one. I’ve never had a boy-friend, and the only friends I have are Chloe and Jimmy.” She spoke casually, though in her head she was screaming with worry.

Inside she was thinking one thing. What am I doing? I'm endangering every-ones life as well as my own by telling them this information. What am I doing? On the outside she smiled calmly. She had just come up with the perfect solution. She turned to Beka. “Can I talk to you quickly, some where private?” Beka looked at Marni suspiciously and nodded, “Thanks Beka.” Marni said in reply to the nod.

Beka lead Marni into the back room. She turned and stared at Marni, waiting for her to start talking. “Um… How do I put this without sounding crazy…? Hmmm… I want to erase every ones memory of what just happened. I just endangered all of their lives as well as my own! Please?” Marni looked at Beka waiting for an answer from the witch. Beka opened her mouth, but no sound came out. Instead she was inside Marnis’ head, almost sitting on the outskirts of her conscious mind.

Of course you can, but do you know the spell?’ Marni realised what was happening and started to control her thoughts more.

Yes,’ she thought spoke, ‘wow, you must be a really powerful witch to do an inside mind spell!’ To anyone who walked in, it would seem like they were just staring at each other with intense eyes, full of fire and hate. Beka started to thought-speak again,

yes, I am but to put up with me in your mind shows your power. A normal witch would have fainted by now or at least feel dizzy and a little out of it. You’re handling it very well.’ Beka always seemed so calm about Marnis’ power.

It may be because she wanted Marni as an ally in the future, or maybe because she was Marnis’ mother, so had the same amount of power. Not that either of them knew this, of course. The last time that they were together Marni was 1 year and 3 months old. Beka had given Marni up to adoption because at the time she didn’t want any children. Now Beka had 3 adopted children as she couldn’t find Marni and no longer had a partner who she shared live with. She regretted giving Marni up and knew she would be a powerful witch some day, only with the right training though. But the main reason was an ally. She was a powerful asset for future wars.

‘Well, on with the spell then…’ she started to mumble under her breath again, making sure to mention a spell to make it not effect Beka.

“Ok, that should have done it. I’ll summon my dog and we can pretend it never happened. We have a couple of minutes before they all wake up, so lets’ go back into the main room.” Beka said. Marni mumbled a spell as she walked to send Chloe back and bring Jimmy. This time the spell worked.
