She was woken by her alarm and she quickly hit it to make it silent. Marni sat up and looked at the clock, waiting impatiently for it to change to midnight. The change when she was 10 forced her to fall asleep, which was really embarrassing as it happened at mid-day instead of night. She was hoping that this was different. She was the highest level any-one had ever been through the 14 years change. Everyone at the club was hoping it wouldn’t effect the change, and make her a full witch (100%), because the last full witch caused an apocalypse, which could only be stopped by 100 sacrifices. Not a good thing. Of course, not all 100% witches are evil. There was only one alive today. And she didn’t even know. Her name was Beka.

It was 11:59 and Marni could feel the power coming. She strained to stay awake. She knew what it involved. She started to murmur the spell. The change went well at first, but when was any-thing that simple? She started to scream as she felt the burn of power running through her veins. Her eyes flashed yellow then black. Her parents flew into her room as she fainted. When she woke up she could hear voices. “She’ll be fine, but something is different about her. She should be dead, with the temperature she was running through some of last night. Was she on any medicine?” It suddenly occurred to Marni they were talking about her.

“No, she was fine when she went to bed last night. As far as we know, she’s not taking anything.” She heard a female voice reply; her mum.

“She’s woken up, she can hear you. Her breathings quickened,” That voice was defiantly Beka, “she knows what happened, but I doubt she’ll say anything about it.”

At this point Marni opened her eyes and looked at them. Her mum squealed and ran to her side. “Are you OK, Hon? How do you feel? This lady says she knows you, do you? Oh, Honey, you gave us such a shock, we-” Her rambling was cut off by Marni,

“I’m fine you heard the doctor, I’ll be good. Yes, do know that lady. Her names Beka, and she’s the tutor I was telling you about, that I go to see every Wednesday and Friday for a couple of hours after school.”

“Heya, sweetie, I’m Doctor Jones, do you feel OK?” The Doctor came over and picked up the report at the end of Marnis’ bed. Marni nodded, only to be told off by the doctor. “You shouldn’t move, Marni. You need to rest!” In truth, Magic made healing faster and reduced pain, so Marni was fine, like she had said.

“Um… Doctor, can I talk to Beka, for a minute please?” Marni said, trying to keep the doctor happy by not moving her head. Beka stepped forward,

“What’s wrong, Marni?”

“Um… I kind of meant alone? Please, you can trust Beka.”

“Sure,” The doctor said, “As long as it’s alright with your parents?” He was informing Marni, as well as asking her Parents.

“I see no reason why not, come on, every-body out and give the girls some privacy to talk.” Her dad stated. They turned and left. As soon as the door closed, Marni sat up and stretched.

“Boy, I love Magic. OK, so what happened last night, I thought it was meant to be painless? I mean I feel great now, I feel fresher than ever.”

“Yes, that’s because of something I should have noticed before. You’re a full witch now. Not 99% most witches, but 100%. You are now in the same league as great witches like Rodney Laming, Sophie Boza and Natalie Lewis.” She sighed.

“What’s wrong with that?” Asked Marni….
