Bethany's phone rang, and she looked to see who it was. "Ugh, it's my mom," she groaned before answering. "Hello?"
"Bethany, are you on your way home?" her mom asked.
"Yes, mom," Bethany sighed. Just then a giggle erupted from the backseat.
"No. No one can spend the night tonight and you're staying home. We need to have a talk," her mom said.
"What! But that's so not fair! What's so important that we have to talk about?" Bethany demanded.
"Your condition," her mom said in a quiet, but firm voice.
Bethany paled, and she felt cold all over. "Fine. Whatever." She hung up. "My mom's a b- so y'all can't come over and I can't go anywhere tonight."
Cassidy gasped, "Why?!"
"I don’t know she said we need to talk about something," Bethany rolled her eyes.
"About what? You don’t think the school called, do you?" Jennifer asked in a small voice.
"No. Who's house do you want to go to?" she quickly changed the subject.
"Mine," Cassidy said.
"Okay." And not two minutes later, Bethany pulled up to Cassidy's house. "Bye guys. Call me later," she said as they filed out.
"Will do! Have fun!" Cassidy said, winking.
Bethany drove home, her earlier mood of pure joy dissipated into anger toward her mother. She pulled up in her driveway, slammed her car door, and then slammed her front door. She walked in the living room and saw her mom.
"What?" she asked as she sat in a chair with her arms crossed.
"Bethany, I want you to go back on Clozaril," her mom said slowly.
"What? Why?" Bethany paled.
"Because… you haven't been yourself lately. And I'm afraid that… it's acting up again," here mom measured each word carefully.
"I'm fine mom. Really! I am," Bethany tried to reassure her.
"I'm afraid you're not."
"Why? What makes you think that?" she was getting angrier.
"When I came home that time and you thought that someone had been in the house…. No one was. There was no way anyone could've been. And you're cheerleading coach called me. What you did to that girl… it's not normal. I'm putting you back on it," her mom said firmly.
"And have you talked to dad about this?" Bethany sneered. Her father was in Asia for a month on a business trip. He would be back in three weeks.
"Yes, I reached your father, and he said it's probably for the best," she told Bethany.
"But mom I'm fine!" Bethany pleaded, her eyes watering. She was desperate.
"I'm sorry honey. I'm going to make you a doctors appointment out of town so there's no chance anyone you know will see you, okay?" her mom smiled encouragingly at her.
"Yeah. Okay," Bethany looked away.
"I love you, honey," her mom said.
Bethany just shook her head and went upstairs.
