"It says that 'the sweetest winter kiss is popping a peppermint into your mouth right before the kiss, and then transferring it during the kiss'," Cassidy read off. She was lying on Bethany's bed on her stomach, feet in the air, flipping through the latest issue of Seventeen.
Bethany wrinkled her nose. "That's gross," she said.
"Yeah. It's almost as bad as swapping gum," Cassidy replied. "I saw McKenzie and Brandon do that one time. Ew," she said.
Bethany shuddered. "If someone did that to me, I would throw up. Bleh! That is so disgusting! I hate thinking about it!"
Cassidy laughed. "Okay, okay! Ooh, it says to give homemade gifts instead of gag gifts," she said.
"Okay, can we stop going through last year's Seventeen's please?" Bethany asked, laughing.
Cassidy sighed. "Fine, fine, fine! What do you want to do?" she asked.
"Raid your shoes!" Bethany exclaimed.
"Go ahead," Cassidy said. "I need to get rid of a ton of them; I've had them for like, nine months," she said.
"Ew," Bethany said.
"Seriously! I need to go shoe shopping. Which is one of the reasons I'm going to New York for Christmas- to get new shoes," she said.
"I love New York in the winter," Bethany said, trying on a pair of worn-twice nude Marc Jacobs's heels.
"It's so amazing at Christmas time! Everything's covered in lights, and all the stores' windows are so pretty!" Cassidy said dreamily. "Oh, and you can have those if you want. I got them in May and never wear them," she said.
"Yay! Oh my God! Cassidy! Is that an unopened UGG box?" she asked.
"Yeah," Cassidy said. "I don’t like them," she said.
Bethany pulled the box down and opened it. There was a pair of short pink UGGs. "Oh my God! They're adorable!"
"Take em," Cassidy said.
"Thanks! You know, it sure is useful to have a best friend who wears the same shoe size as you," Bethany teased.
Cassidy laughed. "It's very useful!" she agreed. "So Matt and Lucie's birthday is coming up," she said.
"When is it?" Bethany asked.
"Um, I think it's like the fourteenth or something," she said.
"Oh well that's good. Maybe I can make my move on Matt or something," Bethany joked.
"Doubt Margaret will be unattached from his hip all night," Cassidy said.
"Ew. You're probably right," she said and then sighed. "When am I going to get him alone?" she asked.
"Hm… Maybe at the Foundation Fundraiser?" Cassidy suggested.
"Maybe," Bethany said noncommittally.
I'll definitely get him alone at the Fundraiser, Bethany thought.
"So we'll probably get invited to the party. And if we don't, we'll obviously just crash it," Cassidy said.
"Which party? Margaret's Halloween party or Matt and Lucie's birthday party?" Bethany asked,
Cassidy thought for a moment. "Both," she finally said.
Bethany laughed. "Sounds good!" she said.
