''Dinner was great, thank you'', I thanked Judie and she smiled at me as she dished the dishes.
The whole family was in the backyard, playing with Honey and enjoying the sunset. I was about to join them, but never liked the fact leaving someone behind and simply waited for Judie. She was so welcoming and warm herself, helping her with dishes was as said the least thing I could do. Also, I wanted to stay away from Louis because of the tension between us. And of course.. Lexi.
''You are the guest, you're not doing the dishes!'', Judie sighed as she tried to pull away the dirty plate from my grasp.
''I've lived here longer than two weeks, being called a guest is not longer a compliment'', I chuckled, ''Just let me help you, so I can feel better'', Judie rolled her eyes before letting of the plate and fixing her messy hair.
''More than two weeks, huh?'', Judie spoke and I nodded as we shared the sink and cleaning the dirty plates, ''It feels like forever'', she followed.
''It does, indeed'',I cleaned the plate before placing it inside the right shelf, ''It will be hard for Louis to leave mostly, I believe. I mean he and Amber..''.
I wasn't sure where the pain found itself by the mention of Louis and Amber in the same sentence. Maybe because I was afraid to loose him, and being somewhere in the world without him would feel like emptiness. And just by fighting with him made me feel awful, and the secret Amber was hiding made me worried about everyone including him.
''Oh yes, Amber really likes him'', Judie nodded in agreement, before falling in silence.
She was about to say something more, but she hesitated and stopped herself.
''If there's something you want to tell me Judie, feel free'', I looked at her but didn't meet her gaze, ''Honestly'', I smiled and her eyes glanced at me before she placed away the clean glass.
''Listen Harry, I enjoy having you here and I really really like you, you're a good person'', she turned to me but her gaze was down at her cloth, wrinkles appearing beside her eyes as she frowned, ''but you're older than Lexi, and I see how much time you spend with each other''.
First Amber, then Louis, and now her own mother. I was doing something wrong, apparently.
''You have good affect on her, sure but remember she is just a teenager'', she looked up at me, ''remember she's still just my baby girl, a-and we wouldn't like to loose her again''.
The roots of her blonde hair had became much more gray than the time I arrived to this home. Her eyes were tired, and I blamed myself for it. She has much more work now because of me and Louis. And she was too good and too caring to let anyone help her. She wanted to feel needed. Even though what she truly needed was sleep and calmness.
''I understand'', I nodded before a deep sigh left my lips, ''You know, almost everyone in the house has said the same, warned me..'', I leaned on my arms, grabbing the sink with my hands.
''And it's not because we dislike you, god no'', Judie placed her hand on my back in comfort, ''it's just that you are a man, Lexi is still just a girl and she hasn't experienced a half of the things she should have as a teenager, she has been in a dark tunnel. She has been doing drugs and been involved in different of crimes and bad people. I'm just afraid of what can happen to her if you two would do something.. inappropriate. I wouldn't accept any of it'', I swallowed hard, ''and you understand me, don't you?''.
''But I want to see her happy'', the words just came out without any hesitation and I looked at Lexis mother and her tired eyes.
''Who doesn't?'', she agreed, ''I trust you, we all do, just don't let us down''.
