August Alsina| Thought Continued
Sharon sat across from August and waited for him to say something, anything.
She played with her thumbs as she waited for time to pass or him to talk, whichever came first.
"How about we talk about why you don't wanna talk to me?" She suggested.
"I'an no toy, you can't try ta fix me like like I'm some kinda Nintendo."
"What makes you think I'm trying to fix you? Are you broken?" Sharon asked.
"Look at 'cha, puttin' words in ma' mouth." He snorted.
"Back to square one." Sharon thought to herself.
Instead of trying to strike conversation again, Sharon just stared at August, trying to understand him. She continued to stare at him for the rest of the session, but she wished the end hadn't have come so soon. She getting somewhere. She could feel it.
The Next Session
Sharon greeted August as he walked in and took a seat. She'd thought about it last night and came to the conclusion that she didn't need August to talk."Can I ask you to take off your sunglasses?" She asked.
He huffed, but nevertheless took them off.
Sharon's eyes widened for a quick second at what she saw. Underneath those glasses, she could finally see a snippet of who August was.
"Okay, okay. Can I ask that you take off the hat and all the jewelry?" She knew she was pushing it a little here, but she couldn't help being a little excited.
"What fa'?" He demanded.
"Just.. Please, August." She begged.
He huffed and took off the stuff.
"Now just stand there." Sharon ordered," Don't move."
Sharon stared at August and she could finally see.
"What 'chu staring at?" He asked.
"You," She said, excitement clear in her tone," I finally understand! All this time, I'm thinking you're just this asshole who's mad at the world, but I see now. I see you, August."
He frowned at her and she figured he thought she was crazy. She didn't care, though. She knew who he was and that person was hiding behind all those materialistic things.
"Mane, whateva'," August waved his hand at her dismissively. "You'on see shit."
"But I do though!" Sharon was far too excited to let August's attitude get to her.
"What 'chu see?"
"Well, I see a man-"
"Wow, you really got me all figured out, eh?" He smacked his lips.
"Anyways, I see a man that's tired. I see a man that has a lot on his plate. I see a man that cries, someone that fakes a smile from time to time, but I bet there's something that makes you smile. Maybe your nieces?" Sharon asked.
August didn't say anything, so she kept going. "I see a man that cries. I see a man that's vulnerable, fragile even. But mostly, I just see a man who needs a fucking break. Excuse my language. It's like you're the shoulder to cry on, but where's your shoulder?"
August still didn't say anything, but it wasn't the same look he had been giving her for a while. When she saw August's head begin to fall, she realized that she'd finally gotten through.
Sharon immediately went ran over and began to hold August. She felt at that moment that this was a moment she'd always wanted. She'd always wanted to completely figure out who someone was and what they needed. She'd finally done that and even though, he was hurting, she'd never felt better.
"I can be that for you, ya know," Sharon whispered. "I can be your shoulder."
