Sucked In

His lips brushed mine in a way that I had never experienced before. It was awkward almost except for the fact that he was into it while I was not so sure what was going on, he smiled as he kissed me which made it feel more natural if not better to be sitting on a bench kissing a complete stranger (minus the vision). Instinctively I wrapped my arms around his back and leaned into his strong arms as they surrounded my waist. Relaxed, but just for a minute as I realized that what we were doing was against the rules. I wasn't supposed to have any interaction other than dancing. I had never really paid attention to that rule because of that fact that I never thought that I would want to do anything more than dance with the arrogant pricks that usually turned up to these sorts of dances, though the Suitors Dance was different. Here was where my father was supposed to pick out the people most likely to earn us a higher standing within the surrounding kingdoms. I leaned back, slightly awkwardly removed my hands from shoulders where they had now rested, and sat up.

"What was that?" I asked in a small voice, slightly raspy. He glanced at me mischievously, somehow proud of himself. I guess I wasn't as right about him as I had thought.

"A bit of fun I guess." He said and I wanted to slap him.

"I meant why?" I asked as I rolled my eyes. Not even waiting to hear his answer I got off the bench and slowly started to swim inside, wondering if he would follow me. When he didn't, I decided that all of this was a fluke and my eyes filled with tears again as I picked up my flower crown from the ground.

Why did this have to be happening? Why couldn't I have just kept my mouth shut and smiled the whole night and not let myself get dragged into a stupid Mermans games? Was I really that dumb? I pondered this is as I slowly ascended the stairs up to my bedchambers.

Once I was safely inside, I turned around and shut the door. My eyes again pricked with tears but I would not let them fall, I wondered what it was that was happening to me. Nothing like this ever happened before, and I hoped that something like this would never ever happen again. I leaned back into the brightly colored anemone and soft coral bed as my brain slowly wrecked itself. Over, and over again, as I remembered the ancient laws, and hoping that no one saw the terrible mistake I had made.
