The next morning I crawled out of bed with a sense of wrongness.
My life was wrong, the kiss had been wrong, I didn't even want to get married at this point. Sadly though I knew that my father depended on me to keep the royal line going, even though I thought it was disgusting; it was sadly true. I remembered the kiss from last night, I mentally slap myself and then laugh into my empty room, remembering that I didn't even get the man's name. I shook my head and as my long wavy hair slowly fell into place once more, I looked in the mirror and the girl who stared back at me. Dear god I looked like I needed a day off; not that one existed for someone of my ranking.
My ranking, the only thing supposedly important about me. I rack my mind to see what it was going on today, I remembered that a few royal families had come and that most likely today will be the day that my father King Alat will talk to me about the Suitors that he picked out for me. I slowly drag myself to my closet and put on a blue silk dress with a see-through skirt that showed my beautiful tail.
I sighed and looked at the array of earrings and necklaces that I could put on if only I had a want and a time. I lay back down on my bed, staring at the window, and the receding blue beyond. I decided the only way to end this state of pure despair would be to get through it. Forgetting earrings and necklaces and accessories; I swim downstairs as fast as I could, entering the kitchen where the cook and his helper were already preparing tonight's dinner. Without even asking even though I knew I didn't have to anyways I grabbed a small canister of seaweed salad with edible wakame as I made my way down to the commons. I saw a whole bunch of my 'friends' whispering in the corner and for some reason, I had a deep-set feeling that they were whispering about the stolen kiss at the dance.
I was correct for apparently one of the handmaidens of King Alat had seen me and the mysterious boy from the vision having that stolen kiss. I glanced over at them as I nervously tugged at the tips of my hair, knowing that they most likely wouldn't see me if I zoomed by. Eventually, I came across one of the handmaidens that I actually liked and I asked her if she knew what boys name was.
At first she looked confused and then almost laughed right in front of me because I couldn't remember the name of the boy had kissed, and yes even I thought it was kind of stupid but I need to know the name anyways. According to her, his name was Finn, I thought it was quite an interesting name even if I didn't think the person was very interesting himself which would've been a lie I had thought he was very interesting when I kissed him. I heard the sounds of trumpets. The news was that my father wanted to see me. One of his bodyguards came up to me and said:
"Miss Sapphire your father would like to see you in the Royal Chambers as soon as your earliest convenience." Even though the look on the guard's face was blank I knew that meant my father wanted to see me right now. Hiding my face in shame I walked behind the bodyguard as he slowly led me up to the Royal Chambers above the towers. Entering the room I saw my father leaning back in his throne, watching me disdainfully as I came to stand in front of him.
"Yes father?"I asked him being very careful to make sure I had my poker face on.
"Daughter I am not very happy with you at the moment." My father informed me, even the look on his face was a dead giveaway, but it was still bad to hear it right from them. I asked him what it was and I was still somehow surprised at the answer he gave me.
"I have heard about your exploits with Finn, and I sadly must inform you that by breaking the rules I have to enforce the ancient rule that says that you kissed him which means you have slightly bonded with him and since it was on the night of the dance for the suitors you must find him bring him here and he must be your Suitor."
My father said and looked at me with the deep expression of sadness meaning that he had not really wanted to tell me this but he had to because of the kingdom depended on it. I was so shocked beyond belief what he said next made me even more shocked.
"And the staff are you know to bring them here to participate as a suitor means that you will have to marry him forever and always. No divorce of any means." he said finishing and horrific touch he added,
"No exceptions."
