"One day, you'll have crypto-magic." I tell Lina.
We've settled down on the sofa in the living room of my suit, the book between us. She's been carefully reading over each line, and comparing the two poems to each other. I've been watching with wonder and she 'reads' the hidden meaning behind each line.
The thing is, with crypto-magic, the faeries that have it can read a prophecy and know the meaning behind it. Some see pictures and some see whole stories from just a few lines of a prophecy. Any fey knows that crypto-fey are the most valuable of all faeries. Especially since they don't appear often, even less than the Oracles.
"Too bad your parents are gone right now." She sighs.
"Why?" I ask. "Should we show them this? Didn't Anina Moreno cast a spell so that they didn't find it?"
She looks at me. "They'll be able to help." She states, simply.
I sigh because she's right. Even if Anina Moreno didn't want this poem to be discovered, they are my parents, so they'll understand. Of course, them being king and queen gives them the power to help me. But help me do what? I ask Lina.
"Well . . ." she says slowly. "Don't take my word for it. But here's what I've understood so far. Phora's Last-Message talks about something or someone taking over and controlling all the elements and betraying a lot of people because they trust that something or someone. From Anina Moreno's prophecy it seems that somehow this got turned around and wiped out all the spirit-fey."
I look at her in shock. "Where did that come from?"
She looks back at me sadly. "I don't know. All I know is that Phora warned everyone that they should 'Take action slow and sure, or many shall pay the cost'. In Anina Moreno's prophecy, she tells you that if what's hidden - which is similar to Phora's invisible beings - cannot be found than horrid things have happened." She points to another line in a book. "But you can help!"
I lean over her shoulder to look at what she is pointing at. The lines read:
"If all things go wrong, one shall make it right.
But they are tied down, unable to take flight."
"The one 'unable to take flight' is you!" She clarifies. "It says here . . . " She trails off, read through again. "See! Even Anina Moreno says that 'If you are grounded, you are to lead'. Both are saying that you need to lead."
"What do I do?" I find myself asking a lot of questions, getting more and more confused by the minute. "It doesn't tell me what to do!"
"Oh, but it does." Lina is quick to correct me. "Here Phora states it very plainly. It's really quite obvious. At the end of his Last-Message he says 'To go on the journey, take earth, wind and fire, and find the town center, the broken glass spire'. You basically go and take one of each element."
I hug her. "Thank you very much!"
She hugs me back. "Anytime."
"How can I repay you?" I ask (I'm asking another question, *sigh*).
She lies back on my bed, stretching out. "You don't need . . ." She freezes and sits bolt upright. "Actually, repay me right now. I don't exist."
She drops to the floor and rolls under my bed. I look at her in utter surprise. I had no clue what had just happened. One moment we were dissecting a prophecy and the next she had rolled back under my bed. One of the only things that could make her do that is if she needed to go to a meet . . .
My train of thought is cut off and my door to the living room flies open. I rush out of my bedroom to confront the intruder. I turn around the corner . . . and stop short. Right there in front of me is Austin. He is Lina's father and from what I see, he had gotten quite mad at Lucas.
"Where on earth is Carolina?" He says quite loudly (not quite shouting). "That little pixie ran off somewhere when she should have been with me during that meeting. I left early to find her. Where is my daughter?"
Lucas looks him straight in the eyes, as a palace guard should do. "Sir, I understand you are looking for your daughter, but I must inform you that you have just barged into the Princess's rooms unannounced."
"There is a great possibility that she is hiding in these rooms somewhere, so it is the best place to look." He retorts. "Princess Rowena is out with her parents who have just returned from a long trip away."
At that, Lucas lets the hint of a smile flash across his face. "I must say, aren't you just jumping to conclusions?" He looks over Austin's head and straight at me. "Hello Princess."
He's known I have been here the entire time, as he should. He's been trained to know his surroundings and sense when some else has walked into the room. Austin, on the other hand, didn't notice me at all. He would make a terrible guard.
It's rather funny to see Lina's father whirl around in shock and look at me as if I just appeared out of nowhere. I know I shouldn't be finding enjoyment in that, but it's just too funny.
"Ah, Princess Rowena." Austin smiles, turning back into his old self. "I'm very sorry. I thought you were with your parents. Didn't you know they have come back?"
I smile back. I like him, I really do. He's been like a second father to me when mine was away. "Oh, they've come and gone again. Either way, it is improper to barge into my rooms whether or not I'm there."
He bows his head. "Yes, I'm terribly sorry." He lifts it again. "Do you happen to know where Carolina is?"
I don't like lying right to Austins face, but he knows that I would never give away where she is. "Even if I did know, do you think I would tell you?"
He smiles. "Yes, you are right. Silly of me." He sighs. "It's too late now anyway. The meeting is over." He walk out towards the door and calls over his shoulder. "Just send her some before nightfall."
Lucas walks over and shuts the door behind him. I look at him and smile. He suddenly comes over to me and start apologizing profusely for letting in Austin (or as he calls him 'Lord Lesley'). I tell him it alright, and he doesn't have to worry. I go back to my bedroom, where Lina is waiting.
I walk over to the bed, drop down and lift up the cover. Lina's green eyes look back at me. "He's gone." I say.
This is all rather silly, being a secretive and hiding from Austin. But it's fun to act silly and do things with no reason behind doing them. We've been hiding from responsibilities even when there was no reason to be doing so ever since we were kids.
Lina rolls out from under the bed. "Finally. Thank you."
I look at her and sigh. "What do we do next?"
She shrugs. "We wait. We can't do anything without your parents."
"But they don't come back for another two weeks." I complain.
"Well, then we wait for two weeks."
