Chapter 45
All these thoughts were interrupted when she saw a particular familiar face in the crowd.
How could he be here at the royal palace— and the more interesting thing was, Eliza was pulling her toward him saying," Oh and here is the man I recently met, Oh Lillian isn't he handsome and lovely?"
Lillian looked at Eliza like she was insane. It was the bishop from Ireland, the one who Louis had tied with chain links to the large cross center-piece of the church and put a white fabric placed over his mouth! Oh dear god, she was doomed.
Who would call the bishop handsome and lovely?
Then she noticed she was talking about some other man, a man with a strange smirk on his lips that reminded Lillian of something she couldn't remember on the spot.
Just the second there seemed to be no escape from avoiding the two men, her hand was pulled by a familiar warm hand," Shall we dance?"
It was Jeremy. Thank god. The royal told Eliza that she is going to meet with people after the dance and scooted away with Jeremiah as fast as possible.
Meeting with the bishop seemed inevitable and she had a feeling they might call her to his presence but for now she could at least skip meeting the man who she felt she knew him.
"You look startled, have you seen a ghost?" Jeremy asked kindly as he lifted the princess for a spin.
The royal bit her bottom lip," There is this matter that I —"
Jeremy smiled," you talking about the bishop and you fear he tells your father about what did the man you are in love with do to him?"
The princess's jaw dropped," How do you —"
"He already told the king about it all, do you remember when I told you your father ordered the ones who kidnapped you to be chased to their death? That's where it is coming from. He came here and told your father where you were last seen, that's actually how we tracked them and found you. To us, the ones who wants you safe here he was a great help."
Lillian looked at the bishop with disgust even though she didn't blame the man all that much, anyone at his position would feel humiliated enough to seek revenge and the funny thing was, if she didn't feel anything toward a certain someone, she would be grateful to the man more than she could imagine.
It seemed like one of her great fears was solved temporarily in a way but it left her to face the other one. Who was he?
She saw him dancing on the floor with Eliza just a few feet away, his dancing skills wasn't good enough for him to be a noble but he could be one of Eliza's market managers. Still he looked like a man of the sea. He had dark raven hair and his short beard with a scar right above his eye brow... who was he...
When the music finished, Jeremy excused himself before the next song starts. Judging by the angel he was walking, the royal could know he was going to the king. Ugh she forgot to ask what his was deal in the palace.
Then she remembered something, she was in her palace, she had a command. It wasn't late, she could ask now!
"Oh Highness, "it was Eliza's voice speaking through her teeth," I want you to meet some of people I invited, I promised them and you keep escaping, it is rude!"
Eliza was a really great friend but sometimes she got too demanding. The princess took a deep breath, she could always ask Jeremy tomorrow but Eliza wasn't there every day and certainly not her guests, beside it was about time Lilian remembered who that man was.
