Chapter 43

Life can boring, life can be tough, but none break one more painful than a life you live with the feeling of guilt.

Days passed slowly and nights seemed gloomy till another slow day starts. Lillian couldn't tell the difference between dreaming and being awake anymore. She insisted on being left to herself and her wish was reluctantly granted by Jeremy.

The royal was aware of his small visits during night time when he just sat by her bed quietly for an hour or two but as cold hearted as it felt, Lillian couldn't bring herself to pay any mind to it.

She couldn't bring herself to care for the books she was given or other accessories.

The princess tossed and turned in her bed not thinking about anything particular. She was going back to her guarded life back home and this short time was gonna be on her chest like a permanent mark.

London was surely close, where she could drown herself into responsibilities and hopefully forget One Direction in no time.

After almost a week, the royal was getting a bit better. Thinking of seeing her family who she missed very much was a powerful motive.

Until another stormy night that Jeremy finally decided to break the silent, he came to the room early in the night. Lillian just had changed to go lay in bed aimlessly.

He pulled his hands through his head," Highness, I've been meaning to tell you something for a bit of a long time but—"he looked into her eyes," But when you look at me with those lusterless orbs, it becomes harder and harder to bring up such matter."

Lillian took his hand and dragged him to sit on the bed with her," I'm being selfish and that's not what someone in my position allowed to do. Please, do talk about it."

Jeremy sat on the bed and smiled," My tough princess." He put his palm on a side of her face and caressed her cheek with his thumb.

The royal relaxed under his soft touch for a second and the pulled away slowly to give him more space to come sit on the bed freely.

They sat rather closely and Lillian waited for him to start.

"I want to inform you a bit about changes in the palace since you've been away..."

Princess's eyes sparkled and sat more upright waiting and Jeremy continued," First you may want to know that your sister and her husband aren't currently at the palace, she had to go to Rome for a royal invitation."

Lillian nodded.

Jeremy talked some more about the country and finally took a deep breath, "And the thing I wanted to tell you is about your mother highness. I'm sorry to say but she is seriously ill."

A thunder made Jeremy's voice fade away but she could see those lips pronounce the word 'ill' far too clearly to doubt what he said.

Wait, what if something had happened to her mother and Jeremy was starting it off with a gentle hint?

Her vision was getting blurry with fresh hot tears but she kept her tone firm," Jeramiah Claflin, is there anything that you are not telling me?"

He looked up," I'm afraid that's all I know royal high—"

"I told you not to call me like that! When were you last given the news?"

"My apologies for that. It's been about two weeks. We never got the chance to receive anything else or send the news of finding you, the weather—"

"How much faster this ship can go? How long till we get to London?" She aimed to get up from the bed but Jeremy held her by the shoulders," Calm yourself Lillian! Have they stripped you from all your manners?"

His tone was dangerously serious," I don't care how much affection you feel toward them nor I care if they deserve it or not but you are the only hope for a country. You are going to rule these lands and seas one day, and you are to make it all a better place. But not like this you can't. "

Lillian calmed her tensed heart almost instantly. She nodded and looked down but before she could start going into deep thoughts two strong arms were wrapped around her shoulder and pulled her into a hug.

Then her head was placed on Jeremy's lap kindly," But no one said you are to go through it all alone, I'm always by your side, as a friend, a soldier anything you need." He fondled her hair," I'll be honest with you if everyone lies and I'll fight for you when everyone turn into your enemies. But you must be honest with me as well. Think you can do that?"

Lillian who was slowly falling asleep nodded her head, never in these last days did she feel so calm.

The princess was dressed up with more elegantly, the crew was on the run to make the ship ready for their soon appearance. Rebecca didn't the royal to go out because she believed that's not so lady like of her and also she took the royals' boots away from her because they were also unlike lady in her position.

The princess insisted on having them on at least until they reach the palace but it didn't work. Ashton showed her a Compassionate look when taking the boots out.

When the ship stopped by the jetty Lillian could hardly breathe. Land with no limitations. Jeremy was quick to send a boy with a message for London.

Lillian who only knew Ashton from the crew hugged him goodbye which made everyone shocked," Thank you for all you've done

Lillian who only knew Ashton from the crew hugged him goodbye which made everyone shocked," Thank you for all you've done. I consider having a friend outside is nice. Stay in touch, I'll give your name to palace guards."

Rebecca pulled her back quickly," Me Lady Please! "She glared.

Lillian nodded knowing this behavior won't be tolerated in the palace," Right, we can go now." She looked at Ashton who nodded and waved for her.

'A pace of life being left behind.' She thought to herself as she followed after Jeremy. Since the palace wasn't informed, gladly there wasn't any Welcoming ceremony or anything.

Jeremy hired the best carriage available and hired some guards as well to escort the carriage.

She was too excited to care for names of places but she noticed they were in east sides of the country which she never even truly paid any attention to them. Not that it was an honor or something. More guilt for her.

This was it. She was home. Or was she...

She did call one direction her first home.

Getting closer to the palace, she looked out of the carriage window. There weren't any black flags waving at the towers. That could mean her mother was alright?

If her mother was ill because of her she could never forgive herself and all these thoughts were making it harder for her to concentrate on probable questions she were to be asked about her time away.
