Ruechari rode while in a trance. Fighting to gain her will and overcome whatever strange hold this man had over her. Chief DamagedGoods warned her of such people. His last words whispered were, "The stories I've told you. They are all true and they are all about you."

So many times she would sit on his lap at night and he'd point up to the stars showing her a warrior among them. "She is the embodiment of light, she brings balance to the dark, where there is hate, she would bring love, sadness, joy," he told her.

"This world is filled with darkness little one, but she is chosen to fight those that would set this world out of balance. Only once she truly believes and accepts her destiny will she have the weapons to fight against all who would try to rip this world of ours into shreds leaving it in the darkness forever."

She shivered at the memory just as she had as a child, and then he would wrap the wool blanket around her. "You have nothing to fear child, you are protected here. You have powerful magic within you. You are protected by a Mother's song."

The Chief was the only Father she had ever known and her mother she could not remember ever seeing her face, she must have gone long ago. Ruechari always wondered why she would leave her behind, but Chief DamagedGoods would never speak of her, and as she got older and the questions came, he would just put her off saying, "Soon. Patience child."

Now he was gone and the answers she sought after died with him or so she thought. Carob Bob said there was another. "Her true father." How was she to become, what she needed to become if she did not know who she even was? So much was left to the winds.

She felt the breeze on her face, she could smell the rancid smoke from Reaper's cigar burn her nostrils and fight as she may she was bound to his bidding. Until on that same breeze, she heard a whisper. A melody filled her mind.

Sweet little baby, don't you fear

Your mommy is always near.

Watching you from up above

Protecting you, with her love.

Ruechari felt her will strengthen as the tune played in her mind. Her memories struggled to find a face to put with those words.

Sweet little baby, don't you fear

Your mommy is always near.

Suddenly a pair of sparkling blue eyes shown bright, helping Ruechari's mind find its way home.

Watching you from up above

Protecting you, with her love.

She could feel the warmth of someone holding her in their arms, bundled and safe from all harm. Ruechari seen a babe's hand reach out and touch something like hair, hair that was as brown as chocolate and so soft, she grabbed hold of it, it was her hand and the hair belonged to her mother.

"That's right little one, grab hold and never let go." The words whispered in Ruechari's mind and a smile as brilliant as the sun brought her home again. Ruechari woke from her daze in her saddle. Reaper rode just ahead of her. She slowly pulled on the reins, the sun was setting she would soon be lost to the darkness of night. Her horse got slower and slower until the distance between them became great, great enough she knew she could try and get away.
