Carob Bob was looking to the horizon, as the sun started to dip behind a small mountain.

"Strange haze," he thought aloud, as he noticed the greyish fog gradually covering the sunset.

A sudden breeze blew across the desert.

Bob could smell smoke.

"Something's burning."

He patted his horse's neck.

"Well old boy, you got a few more miles in you?"

The horse reared up on it's hind legs and took toward the sunset.

Welcome to Swamp Gold

The rough, hand painted sign, which once invited people to the mining community of Swamp Gold, now offered an entrance to a burning, smoldering, tomb.

Bob slowly guided his horse down the centre of what was once the main street of the town.

"What ungodly creation did this?" he wondered aloud.

In his heart he knew the answer.

Bodies littered the street. Men, women and even children.

Their still, silent forms, a testament to the evil that had shrouded the town.

Bob jumped down from his horse and examined several of the bodies.

All were dead.

He stood and looked around. Every building in the town was burned to the ground and only dying embers provided light in the fast dying daylight.

"Is our Rue here?" Bob asked.

He never turned.

He knew she was there.

"No," was the answer he received.

"She's been here, I feel her presence," Bob said, quietly.

"She left before this happened. She got away Bob, but I do not know for how long.

The last I had seen her she was safe in Crystal Caverns."

There was a moment of silence, before Bonnie spoke again.

"What has happened here, Bob?"

He heard the sound of horses approaching.
