Ruechari mind felt free and clear for the first time since she had first laid eyes on the Reaper. What was he? How did he have such a hold over her mind? How could she prevent it in the future?

Her father's stories raced through her mind, as quickly as her horse raced over the desert. So many times he told them to her, willing her to memorize them. They haunted her dreams. They were not the happy fairytales of childhood but grim tales of gruesome creatures that plagued the night.

The Skinwalkers who can shift to animal form.

The White Queen, whose thirst for blood could never be satisfied.

The Wraith a warrior who sold his soul in search of immortality.

She needed to remember. She needed to recall the details. She could not as her heart pounded with each footfall of her steed. All she could recall is her father's words as each story struck a new chord of fear in her heart.

"Never fear the darkness or evil. They are as necessary as the light. Without them the world falls out of balance, but they must be kept in check. Their souls tend to be greedy and always craving more. If they achieve such goals all will fall in to disarray. Remember even the smallest sliver of light can pierce any darkness."

Ruechari shut her eyes against the light of the moon. She pictured instead the moon in her mind, filling it with it's bright light. She saw how the darkness recoils from the light left to lurk in the shadows. She must keep that light in her mind, to keep Reaper out. She must master the moon, the sun and the stars. She must use that light to repel the darkness.

Her tired mind collapsed her body and she slumped in her saddle. She whispered to her horse and knew he would keep her safe though out the night, she would sleep as he continued forward.

She thought she had lost him. She thought she was free but she could hear him in her mind.

"You're stronger then I thought, but not strong enough to defeat me, or my hold on you. Sleep well, Ruechari. I'll be seeing you in the morning light."
