Hellzing slowly opened his eyes. He was bouncing up and down in the stagecoach as it moved quickly across the desert.
He looked across at the man sitting there.
"Well, look who has decided to join us."
Liz laughed.
"Good morning sunshine."
Hellzing jumped back at the sight of the vampire queen sitting next to him. He looked past her, at the sun rising above the horizon.
"How?"
Liz looked outside.
"Oh, that? You really have been reading too many stories, dear Hellzing."
She put her arm through the coach's window, the new morning sun shining on it.
"See, no fire, no burns, no nothing. Just stories we started to give you poor desperate souls some hope."
He looked outside at the desert quickly passing them by.
"How is this possible? I killed your driver."
Liz slapped him across the face.
"Yes, you were certainly a pain in my ass. Made me go back to the nearest town and conscript a new driver."
Valentine leaned forward.
"Now we just have to decide how to deal with you, Hellzing. You do tend to be a tad irritating."
"Valentin, darling. Do not play with my new pet."
Liz stroked Hellzing's face.
"You just might scare him."
"I am not afraid of you or your manservant."
Liz laughed.
"I would not get Valentin upset."
Valentine knelt in front of Hellzing, his face changing and the fingers on his hands elongating to razor-sharp claws.
"I could rip your throat out right now."
Hellzing took a deep breath.
"Then I will die as my ancestors did."
Valentin sat back on the coach's bench, laughing.
