Carob Bob pushed his horse as fast as he could.

He could still hear the gunshots and screaming from behind him.

Quantrill's words were still echoing in his head. "Get the hell out of here. Go find your daughter."

Several riders had been with Bob in the beginning, but they had either been killed or rode off. He wasn't sure and he really didn't care at this point.

He knew Plainsway was somewhere toward the horizon and he simply had to get there.

As he rode, a strange feeling overtook him. A sudden chill went through his body and he felt an emptiness inside.

"Bonnie," he whispered.

A single tear fell from his eye. He could feel something was wrong.

But there was no time for sorrow.

He urged his steed forward.

A glint caught his right eye and then one from the left side. Like the sun shining off something metallic.

"Be you friend or foe?" Bob wondered aloud.

No time to worry about that.

Bob rode hard for the next 15 minutes.

He could see something on the horizon.

"Plainsway," he shouted.

"On boy. on."

A shot rang out.

Carob Bob's horse stumbled and the fell to its knees, throwing Bob hard to the ground.

He rolled over several times and then lay face down on the hard desert floor.

He could hear his horse cry out in pain.

There was another shot and then silence.

Bob tried to move, but he simply couldn't.

He could see a shadow cover him and someone take his pistols from his holster.

"You won't be needing these."

Bob recognized the voice.

"Quantrill?"

Someone rolled him over.

He looked up into the face of Quantrill.

"Why?"

"Well, it's like this Bob. With the Reaper gone, the Wraith will be looking for a new right hand. Bringing in the father of Ruechari might just be the ticket to me getting that position.
