Evan

At first it was pretty awkward in my new room with my new roommate and my new best friend. We sat there for maybe 5 minutes until I spotted the PS4. "Woah." I said out loud. "Wanna play?" Johnny asked. "Uh, sure. I'm just a little rusty. Its been like, twenty four hours." Jon and I both started laughing. I stopped laughing when I noticed something shinning on Johnny's dresser. I went over to it to examine. It was a pin that had Nyx on it pulling a carriage with three stars on it. "What's this?" Jon walked over to me. "Oh, its the pins that represent our former number, well I guess you could call it grade. I'm a third former so I have Nyx caring three stars. You'll get one soon. We have to wear it with our school uniform." Jon looked at me and smiled. "So, how come you guys weren't wearing them today?" "Oh! We just got back from our summer break, so the professors are taking it easy on us." I looked at Jon and he looked at me. "Oh, alright. Do we have a principal or anything?" Jon looked like I just shot him. "Yeah, about that. We have a High Priestess and ya know the whole thing how women are the most powerful in Nyx's children. Our High Priestess is pretty strict." I gave Jon a weird look. "Strict? How?" Jon shook his head. "You haven't met her yet, and her Goddess given gift is to heal people and stuff." "Okay?" "I don't know I think she's a bit evil." I laughed. "Evil?" "Yeah man, in the vampyre world shit gets real." Jon pulled me close. His breath smelling like candy canes. "But the worst part is seeing your friend, boyfriend, girlfriend, or even roommate not surviving the change." "Have you ever seen it?" "No, and I don't want to." He noticed his grip on my arm and backed up. "Do you have a Goddess given gift?" Jon looked down and started playing with his hands. "No." I walked over to him and put a caring hand on his shoulder. "What about Tyler, Luke, David, Lui, Brock, Marcel, Brian, or Craig?" Jon looked up and slightly smiled. "Tyler hasn't gotten one. Luke I don't know. David, nothing. Brock nothing. Craig, his sight it terrible, but nothing. Marcel, nothing. Brian, other than his good ass accents, nothing." I looked at him and smiled into his bright blue eyes. "See, you're not the only one. I don't even have one yet." He smiled back at me. He was slightly taller and his brown hair fell right above his forehead, almost like a little ramp. We just stood there and looked at each other. Our goo-goo eye contest was interrupted by someone over the PA.

"Attention all students, there is a huge ritual for the Dark Daughters and Sons tonight, along with an assembly for all third former students. All third former students must report to the High Priestess's meeting room at 4:00. Thank you." I looked at Jon confused. "Can you help me get there?" He nodded. "Welp, I'm going there too." He laughed as he hooked an arm through mine. "And its 3:45, so we may wanna make our way down there." I laughed as Johnny and I walked out of our room.

Jonathan

Everyone was down in the meeting room. I even spotted Luke. I looked over at Evan and noticed he was sorta nervous. I grabbed the elbow part of his arm and pulled him along. We walked around the theater looking place and found a seat towards the front. Evan sat right beside me, with a nervous smile on his face. I tapped him on the arm. He looked over at me. "Hey. Its alright. Trust me. Everything's gonna be a-okay?" He gave me a bright smile with those shinny brown eyes. He turned forward as we all felt the rush of power.

Our High Priestess walked out on stage. She seriously was gorgeous. She was wearing a dark emerald dress that flowed to her ankles where you could see her green pumps. Her dark red hair flowed down to the center of her back and she was wearing diamond earrings. Everyone was gawking at her. Even some of the girls were. "Welcome back to the House of Night my fellow vampyres and fledglings." She looked around the room and smiled. "I have chosen to have these assemblies separately by different former grades." She looked around the room once more. "For any new fledglings, I am your High Priestess of the House of Night of Toronto. Many people may call me Willow." She smiled and took a small bow. "Now I'd like to meet my new fledglings." She said still smiling. I poked Evan. He gave me a nervous glance. He shook his head. I smirked and pinched him in the side. He yelped and played it off by standing up. He silently flicked me off as the High Priestess looked at him. Then she gasped. "Oh, and who are you, young one?" "I'm Evan Fong." He choked out. "Your... tattoo is very... unique." Everyone in the rows behind us stared at Evan from behind. He turned around quickly and turned back with a bright red face. I flicked everyone off behind us. They all rolled their eyes or yawned and turned their attention back onto Willow. "May I see you after this assembly?" She asked. Her hazel eyes shimmering. Evan nodded and sat back down.

Willow continued with her speech and how school this year will be exciting, etcetera, etcetera. She was talking about dorm rules right when someone started coughing. We all gasped and turned around to find out who was coughing. The room was dimmed so I couldn't see shit. "Turn on the lights!" Willow commanded. One of the close professors obeyed. My heart shattered when I saw who was coughing. Luke. He was coughing and blood was all over the grey t shirt he was wearing. Willow walked off stage and ran to Luke. Everyone was talking at once. "Is he rejecting the Change or is he actually gonna make it?" One of the blonde chicks behind me said. Evan finally found out who was coughing. He gasped, then put a hand over his nose. I gave him a weird look, but then it hit me. The smell of Luke's blood. I tensed up as the smell hit me. Evan grabbed my arm and squeezed it. Luke tried standing up but fell right back down. Willow was on the ground beside him trying to help him out. "Get Professor Nelson immediately!"

Luke's coughing was slowing down, but so was his heart beat. He was crying blood and was very weak. I could see Willow shaking her head. I bit my tongue from trying not to yell out. Willow stood up and shook her head. "This poor fledgling has not survived the Change... He is now in the Otherside with Nyx." We all bowed our heads. I wanted to run over to Luke and slap him, tell him to get up and just go play video games. But he's dead, gone, in the Otherside with Nyx.

After Willow dismissed us I ran to my room. Away from everyone, my friends, and Evan. I knew that I'd see Evan again anyway, but I could use some time alone. I plopped down on my bed. I rolled onto my sides and tried my best not to cry. My best friend just rejected the Change. How in the fuck will I ever get over that? I pulled my face into a pillow and silently let out my tears.

Evan

Jonathan ran away from me as soon as Willow dismissed us. I walked up to her but a fledgling stopped me. "Hey are you that new fledgling with the awesome tat?" Asked the blonde. She had bright green eyes and a lot of make up. She flipped her hair and crossed her arms. "Oh, yeah." I answered as I pointed to my forehead. "Since you're so special why don't you come to our Dark Daughters ritual tonight?" She asked. "Sure, I gotta talk to Willow like she said though." The girl smiled. "Oh it's alright. By the way I'm Agnetha! You are?" "Evan." "Cool, so I'll see ya tonight?" "Yeah. Totally." Agnetha smiled and winked as she turned and walked away. For some reason I had no attraction to her. Not even the sound of her heart beat turned me on. I shrugged it off and walked over to Willow. "Oh, Evan!" She cried. "Come to my room. We'll talk there." I followed Willow to the professors' dorms. She opened two huge doors to her gigantic room. She sat down at a table and gestured towards the other chair.

I took the seat as she ordered something from her personal little servant. She smiled and looked at me again. "You are one special fledgling. You know that right, Evan?" I looked at her. "I guess. I mean Nyx actually like talked to me before I came here. But the weird thing was that when I was marked I just had a filled in crescent moon. Then, when Nyx came in my sleep she slapped me at the end and I woke up with these other marks." Willow only nodded. "Hmmm. That's interesting." She said and looked out the window. I think she was still thinking about it. "Evan, why don't you go do your own thing and if something is ever bothering you come talk to me alright?" I nodded. "Yes ma'am." I fisted my hand over my heart and did a respectful vampyre bow.

I walked out of her room feeling like a boulder was taken off my shoulders. I walked slowly down the hallway. I kept walking and then I started thinking. I remembered what Agnetha told me. Then I thought again as I walked to the small shed, house thing Agnetha told me to go to. I thought, what in the hell is a Dark Daughter or Son?
