It’d been just under a week since May had deleted the web page the whole time she felt uncomfortable. The wait to see if one of the Alphas would show up was excruciating. May could feel herself falling apart what had she done? She shouldn’t have thought that she knew what was best for Iris; Iris’s naivety might have saved her if it weren’t for May sticking her nose in! It was too late for that now though, May needed to keep close to Iris and protect her, after all should anything happen it’d be all her fault.

Sticking close to Iris was exactly what May did, ever since she deleted the page, May was like Iris’s shadow. May kept insisting they had girlie sleep overs every night in each other’s rooms even though they both lived a few houses away. Iris thought it was a bit odd at first, but dropped it quickly when May said she wanted to spend as much time with her as possible before she was swept away by her mate. This in a way was true because who knew what would happen if or when one of the Alphas tracks her down?

May tried keep Iris cooped up indoors too it was safer in the pack house than outdoors in the woods. When Iris would manage to get out May always steered her to a busy public place like huge shopping centres, where her scent would be disguised and plenty of witnesses would see if a huge moody Alpha by the name of Gage picked her up and walked off with her.

Iris may be a lot of things but unobservant was not one of those things, over the week she could see May driving herself up the wall. She was stressed, nervous, anxious and extremely jumpy, just the other day Iris had walked up behind her and jumped on her back while she stared out at the woods. Iris did this all the time to May, usually she’d jump a little bit but not this time, this time May had swiftly turned around in a defensive position and growled loud enough to attract the attention of some of the packs strongest fighters!

Iris had never seen May behave like this before it was rather worrying her; May shadowed her constantly and would never leave her alone, she could’ve sworn that she had scented her everywhere even when she thought she wasn’t there. This is what led Iris to try escape May to go to the pack doctor.

Iris had snuck into a pack members room that had an a joining bathroom which she used to coat herself in really strong smelling soap and over used some cologne left on the side to mask her scent. When she was done she smelt so strongly it burnt her nose and made her eyes water. Exiting the other bedroom Iris could see May stood down the hall outside the bedroom Iris had first been in. Iris ran silently down the corridor in the direction of the pack doctor’s office, tapping twice before entering.

The Doctor smiled at Iris and motioned for her to sit. Iris returned the smile with a small one of her own and sat on the chair on the other side of the desk in the mint green room. The office looked like any other doctors office with a computer and a bit of paper work as well as basic instruments like a stethoscope and tongue depressors.

“What seems to be the problem Iris?” The pack doctor was a kind caring wolf that taught Iris all kinds of things, Iris wanted to be a pack doctor when she’s fully trained but at the moment she only knew minor things as her training had taken a backseat to her school work.

“I’m worried about May.” Iris stated while she looked down, ashamed that she was talking about her best friend behind her back. The doctor had his chin rested on his hand and looked at Iris speculatively.

“Why exactly? She walked by me the other day and seemed in good health.”

“I think it’s more of a psychological problem than a physical one, but her personality has done a 180. She’s stressed, and anxious, and paranoid and she won’t leave me alone! She’s like a really over protective shadow and she won’t let me out of her sight. I swear she followed me to the bathroom the other day, and to get here without her following me I had to spray some really strong cologne on!” Iris finished breathlessly as she felt the weight lifted off of her shoulders ease slightly.

“Well, that’s quite a list but it is a somewhat concerning list. Has she mated yet?” the doctor looked at Iris questioningly.

“Err well she’s found him and everything but I don’t think they’ve mated yet.”

“Interesting this might be what’s causing the behaviour change. When a she wolf meets a potential mate their wolf side wants to mate as soon as possible while her human side might want to take it slow. But during this time her wolf will want offspring as that’s what all she wolves want so her wolf might be channelling the want for offspring into her so effectively her wolf might be viewing you as her pup until she has one of her own. I’d have to speak to her though; I’ll put an alert out through the pack mind link so if anyone sees her she’ll be sent to me.” Iris smiled at the doctor and thanked him for his help and insight.

Knowing May would come looking for her Iris used the connecting door of the office to enter the hospital wing and went back through the pack house for a well needed shower.

May had been outside the room for a good fifteen minutes before she twigged something was wrong. She went in to the room and found that Iris’s scent ended in the bathroom and was replaced by a powerful stench, which May felt she had no choice but to follow.

May followed the scent down the corridor it seemed to settle on the corridor with the Alpha’s office, Beta’s office and the hospital wing. As May started pacing along the corridor hoping for Iris to appear the door to the Alpha’s office opened and smacked her in the nose causing her to stumble and fall backwards in surprise.

“Oh I’m sorry, I should’ve been more careful here let me help you.” A hand stretched down into May’s view. She brushed her hair back to see the owner of the hand offered. She drew in a ragged breath as she looked into the Alpha’s eyes directly before lowering her head in submission. She accepted the offered hand so as not to anger the man that was higher up in the world than her.

“No, no, no Alpha Canis I am sorry I should’ve looked where I was going.”  He narrowed his eyes at her causing her to take an involuntary step backwards.

“How is it you know my name?” he questioned with a raised eyebrow.

“I’m Iris’s best friend.” May whispered with her eyes still slightly diverted. With that she was pulled into a bear hug with a sharp pat on the back.

“You have my permission to call me Darius, now please take me to where my delightful future mate is hiding.”

May gulped now she’d done it but at least it was Darius not Gage that showed up first right?

From the edge of the woods behind the pack house a dark wolf sat watching all the exchanges going on in the house through the windows. The wolf kept his eyes narrowed in focus and his ears twitching standing rigidly in an alert stance. He looked dark but he had been outside waiting for his chance for five days with the pack still oblivious to his presence as he watched the two girls.
