Magic and College?!

I trembled in fear. This was not normal..A family of ghosts!? How and why?! She said that these were the neighbor's children...
Unless... Whatever was in that drink made them this way....

The pendant began to shine dimly. I sensed danger...We had to go now!

"Naru..I think it's time to go..." I said hesitantly.
Naru noticed the glowing pendant and nodded his head in response.
"We'll get Lin over here when he comes home. For now, we will take our leave...." Naru sighed.

I grabbed him by the wrist and dragged him down the sidewalk.
As I stared dead in front of me, I felt the eyes of the dead staring at me. 
"Just keep walking" Naru ordered.
"Okay.." I replied softly.

I sat on the couch quietly, playing with my thumbs. I rubbed my neck and just emptied my mind. 

When I thought I could have a normal day...
Ugh!! I can never win!

As I began to give up on everything, Lin came in with a couple of grocery bags.
I jumped up and took a hold of them. I ran into the kitchen, quickly putting the groceries away.

I heard Naru speaking with Lin. Then I heard the door shut. It got quiet so I assumed that Naru went with Lin.

"Naru left his book here.." I said to myself.
I looked around and saw no one so I snatched up the book and began to read it.

"Boo" someone whispered is my ear rather coldly.
"EEK!" I dropped the book on the table and jumped.
"Don't do that! Besides I thought you were with Lin!!" I shouted, feeling rather embarrassed.

"Says the one who was looking through my stuff!" Naru teased.
"Anyways..Lin went by himself. He didn't want anyone to bother him".

" Oh..."

Naru stretched out his arms and yawned.
"Do you need a nap?" I asked as I looked at his tired face.

"No" Naru said in his grumpy tone.

"Yes you do mister! Go straight to your room right now! No " ifs, and or buts"!" I commanded as if I were his mother.

Naru rolled his eyes again.
"Fine..MOM..".
Naru laughed a bit and walked upstairs to his room. I stuck out my tongue playfully and then I went to sit down on the comfy couch.

" Ugh...I'm bored..." I whined.

I walked up to the window and stared outside. I squinted my eyes due to it being bright out.

"Those are the children..And there's Lin"

I stared at the stairs that lead to Naru's room, then I stared at the door.
I walked towards the door and went outside. I watched as Lin began to talk to "Maria".

I gulped.

"That family is very troublesome Mai. Stay away from them..." The spirit said to me. 
I looked to my left and saw that she was standing there watching them as well.
"Are they really that dangerous?" I asked.

"Yes. That women is not dead, but she uses a type of witchcraft that was banned from this world many..many years ago...".

"What kind?!" I asked.

"A type that messes with the balance of light and darkness. I tampered in that kind of mess when I was a child..." Kage explained.
"A kind of power that messes with the devil in a way...I made a hefty sacrifice using that, and so is she...".

"Why would she do such a thing?!" I gasped, horrified at Maria. 
"I do not know. But he must be careful while hes around her and those children..." Kage said.
"Is there anything we can do to help?!".

Kage shook her head. "I do not know how, but you do...".

"Me?!" I gasped. "Woah! No no no no! I don't even know what is going on at this point! How could I know that kind of stuff!?".

Kage rolled her eyes. "You'll see". 

Then she just disappeared.

Lin began to walk back. He looked tired and stressed out..
As he got on the porch I asked him, "Hey Lin...Are you okay? Do you need to rest?".
"No" he answered. 
He said that in the most coldest way ever, I felt hurt and somewhat scared.

I followed Lin in and noticed Naru was grabbing his cup of tea and his book off the coffee table.
"Hey your awake!" I said happily. 
"Yeah..I needed that little nap..." He yawned. I giggled and then I went back to Lin who was typing away at his computer.

"Oh. Mai, here..This is from your school" Lin said as he got up from his desk and handed me a small envelope. 

I stared at the envelope and began to rip the top part off.
I pulled out  2 pieces of paper, both folded up and a white and black card that had a glittery gold trim surrounding it.

I unfolded the first paper and noticed it was my actual test score and final grade.
"100.5? Wait what??". 

"It means that you passed your exam and college exam..." Naru told me flatly then sipped his tea.
"Oh..".
"But that does not mean you've been accepted to a college.." Naru added. 

I unfolded the other paper and my eye widened. "I did!" I cheered. "Yeah! I got accepted!!".
"Good for you Mai. Very proud that an air head like you actually made it somewhere..." Naru chuckled. 
"Shut up! I'm actually very smart!".

"Yeah..Okay...Believe what you believe in Mai..." Naru sighed.

I picked up the card and examined it. "A pass..? Oh I see...So when I go to the tour that's held next Friday, I need to give this to the people so they know i'm a qualified student". 

I placed the papers down and sighed.
"Now that I know I got accepted..I honestly don't want to go.." I sighed disappointingly.

"Mai, you haft to go no matter what. College is suppose to help you, so staying here is just going to make you more stupid then you already are. You'll be missing all these opportunities that will help you in life. Go Mai...Okay?" Naru said to me with a kind and gentle tone.

"Alright...".

(Next Day)  

What Kage told me yesterday, about her messing with that dark magic got me thinking about how she got here. When my parents sealed her away somehow in this pendant, was it for a good reason?, Not just to protect me?! I mean..Sealing away a spirit who did some horrible things and trust them to protect your daughter seems kind of sketchy. 

I love Kage, really. She has been helping me out a lot but still...

Specifically what kind of magic was she and Maria using? And what was their purpose?
How does it affect the light and darkness in the world?

So many questions kept piling in my mind to the point where it began to make my head hurt. 

Ugh..College...black magic...What's next? Unicorns and UFO's flying through the sky?!
Plus my birthday coming soon...UGHH!!!
