Pounding was all I heard. Blur of trees were going past me as I stumbled through the heavy bushes and branches trying to get away from the monster.

The monster so vile, so evil that it took all my strength I had to not freeze up as I hear him cursing at me behind me.

He was gaining and my heart beating so loud the crickets and owls were drowned out. There was light ahead but all I thought of was safety.

Safety from the monster that haunted my nightmares. The beast that ruined my life. The demon that took my mother in front of me.

The devil's name you never say because he would hear you even if there is a war around you. The name that when said will glare at you until you cower in your feet.

The devil's name was Gabe Ugliano.

The light ahead was getting closer as my heart sped up. I didn't care that there was a small group of girls in silver outfits pointing bows at me.

I saw the one that seemed to be the oldest and hid behind her while the girls glared at me but I was too caught up trying to get my breath back as my legs shook until I fell back.

I moved back as the rustling of leaves drew closer. The devil coming near me, my eyes widened as I started to crawl backwards with little to no strength thankful that the girls that could protect me were now pointing their bows at the bushes.

A mammoth of a man with little to no hair, a smelly, stained shirt and pants came into the area as my breath picked up once more and I tried and failed to move back again.

"Come on brat." The man slurred and I quaked where I was laying staring at the man who was a demon is disguise of a man.

"Who are you." The girl I hid behind asked her voice filled with confidence that I didn't have as she aimed an arrow at the Evil One.

The man licked his lips with an evil glint in his eyes while looking at the girl and my eyes widen with fear. What had I brought onto the innocent girls as blood poured through my mind almost drowning the conversation.

The girls had this disgusted look on their face that my mother wore when Gabe was around and did something she didn't like.

"Why don't you leave Pig." The woman with Auburn hair as her back was turned back against me but I just knew she was glaring at the man with confidence that a kid only seeming to be a few years older than me could have.

The Crooked One glared at the female and his face turned to that of disgust, "I will take the boy and leave." he grunted and moved toward me as I desperately tried to get up but the leaves making me fall back down as my eyes widened with horror.

"I think not." An arrow landed between the monster and me as my breathing picked up once more as the girl reloaded an arrow.

"If you haven't noticed. You are outmatched. Leave." She commanded and the other girls around took that as a command as they seemed to tighten their hold on their bows, my breath was nonexistent as I looked at the barbarian in front of me.

He scowled but even in his drunken haze he seemed to recognize that he was in fact outnumbered and scowled as he turned to the female leader, "The brats yours." he said and started to make his way out of the forest.

I didn't feel relaxed though and crawled backward desperately when the female who drove the monster away started to come to me.

She stopped in her steps and stared at me with this look that I recognized when my teachers found that I was stupid in school. Except it wasn't disgust it seemed to be...curiousity?

Before I knew it the little girl had this golden glow around her as I turned away when a flash happened. Suddenly in the young girl's position was a fully grown woman wearing a silver outfit with her bow and arrow on her back as she crouched near me.

"What is your name?" She asked in the tone that my mother used to tell me when she tried to sooth my nightmares.

"Pe-Percy." I stuttered terrified as I looked to all the girls who seemed to be itching toward their bows.

The gir-woman seemed to know this as she dismissed the girls except for this girl with a silver tiara on her head and was part scowling, part intrigued.

"How old are you Percy?" The woman asked kindly as I suddenly started to feel relaxed.

"Seven." I said quietly and saw that the older woman looked at the girl and seemed to be communicating in a way that wasn't talking.

The tiara girl nodded reluctantly but didn't move from her spot as the woman turned to me, "Who was that man?" she asked kindly as I looked to the ground not able to look her in the eye.

"Smelly Gabe." I said quietly and only looked up when I heard a snort from the tiara lady who looked amused.

The woman gave this weird look to the tiara that made her stiffly the laugh that I think she wanted to do and turn back to me with a kind smile, "Has this...Smelly Gabe ever hit you?" She asked and I wanted to get defensive but they saved me from Gabe, so I replied honestly.

"Yes," I said so quiet that I didn't know if they heard me at first but they seem to have when they had another nonverbal conversation.

"Have you ever heard of the Greek Gods Percy?" She asked out of the blue and I looked at her confused but answered.

"My mommy use to tell me stories about them," I said and stifled a tear at remembering my mom.

"Use to?" The tiara asked questionably but had this tone like she knew the answer especially when tears formed in the corner of my eye.

"Smelly Gabe...he..he killed her," I choked out as there was a sudden lump in my throat as a tear leaked from my eye.

"It's okay," The gentlewoman said softly with a smile that mom always used to calm me down. Somehow it worked as I stifled a sniffle and whipped my eyes.

"Has your mom ever talked to you about your father?" The lady asked but I wanted to know something first.

"What's your name?" I asked instead not really wanting to answer but at the same time my curiosity was peaked.

The lady smiled kindly, "My name is Artemis Goddess of Hunt, the Wilderness, Chastity, Maidenhood, Moon. Protector of childbirth and labour. It also means that I care for any kids at a certain age," She said kindly.

"Oh."
