Waking up wasn't too bad except for someone pouring water on me. Too bad for them because the water just dried on me.
Smirking I looked to how was the person who dumped water on me and I think it was the hunter that Artemis had mentioned might take time warming up to me, Phoebe.
"We need to begin the ceremony. Have you made a decision?" She asked her voice a little bitter but she seemed to not be as mean as Artemis had portrayed her to be.
I still cowered under her stare and looked away, drawing in on myself as I nodded shyly. I was staring at the ground as I moved out of the bed and followed behind Phoebe the best I could while not looking directly at her but still at my surroundings.
I heard Phoebe sigh beside me as she suddenly stop making me stop as well and she told me to look at her. I slowly did so and she seemed exasperated yet had the look that I think was curiosity.
"Look male, I might not like you but I really don't like you being this disclosed off. Artemis has already told the hunt she was going to adopt you, that's a big thing and she sees something in you that we can't. So from now on, we are brother and sister whether neither of us can like but have to live with it." She said crossing her arms as I looked away and nodded silently.
As I heard another sigh I looked up in time to see her angry face drop and her face soften like moms would when I was bad but she knew I didn't mean to do it.
"What exactly happened when you lived with your that whale of a man?" she asked kindly, not at all the same voice she used seconds ago as I stared into the forest in thought.
"My world changed." I replied silently and distant as I didn't feel like waiting anymore and started walking in a random direction.
"This way." Phoebe said catching my attention from where I was as she pointed toward a small clearing I hadn't seen yet. What caught my attention though was the voice she used, as if her resolve had crumbled as she also gave me a small smile.
Nodding I started to follow Phoebe again unknown that what was coming was going to change my life for the better.
As we reached the clearing Artemis was standing in the middle and around her was the silver outfitted girls that were apart of her hunt.
"Are you ready?" Artemis asked her voice was that of possibly awkwardness as I stood in front of her suddenly nervous of how the other girls would react.
I looked sideways for any ways out that I might need and saw that Phoebe was whispering to Zoe as Zoe grew a small smile.
Looking away conflicted if they were talking bad or good I stared at Artemis and nodded slowly too afraid to talk.
"What was your decision, do you want to become immortal in your wolf or human form?" Artemis asked with authority that almost made me flinch thinking of Gabe for a second.
Pushing those thoughts away knowing Artemis wouldn't do that to me (Right?) and quietly replied, "I want my human form to be immortal and my wolf form to age." I replied quietly and looked around as I noticed the female warriors all had shocked looks and some frowns.
"Why wouldn't you want to age in your human form? You could break hearts that way." A girl who seemed to be a few years older than me asked harshly as I flinched away from her and her big meanie head.
Calming my stuttering heart I replied, "Because I like being seven and no-offense, but I don't want to really date. Plus, you don't seem to really like me and if I get older than you wouldn't ever really get to know me for who I am, I'm a child let's face it. Also, if I'm an immortal seven year old I still wouldn't want to date because girls have cooties and cooties are no good. Plus, being a wolf would be awesome but if I'm like stuck at the age of seven then what fun would that be? I wouldn't be able to hunt or defend myself that well. As a human I can still defend myself no matter what the age." I said showing off how much I thought this through.
I heard Zoe and Phoebe snort when I was talking about cooties and they had this proud look on this face while the other hunters were stumped. But I felt awkward, they were all staring at me and I felt like I said something wrong before I turned back to Artemis to see her reaction.
What shocked me was that she seemed, almost relaxed and had this proud look that my mom use to whenever I did good on a test or quiz in school.
"Are you ready for the adoption process?" She asked as I nodded more confident than before as Zoe and Phoebe voiced their agreements to get the show on the road so they could have a little brother.
Artemis smiled at her two hunters as she turned back to me, "It will be painful because you will instantly change into a wolf and the first transformation will not be nice." She said seriously as she looked at me concerned.
I nodded in understanding as I braced for pain as Artemis started to say words in a language I recognized as Greek.
Suddenly a large silver bolt went from Artemis's hand into my chest as I bit back a scream. Closing my eyes I felt as if my blood was on fire but slowly I pushed passed the pain and carefully focused on the changing process.
It hurt. It really did but as soon as I felt four paws instead of two legs and two arms the pain went away. Slowly, I opened my eyes and looked around at the sudden change in height and looked up...and up...and up and noticed that there were a lot of cooes around me and looked around and tried to find a small puddle.
Finding one near Zoe I looked into it and tilted my head. Instead of there being a human in the picture was a midnight black wolf with Sea-Green eyes that had a ring of silver around the pupil. Stepping into the puddle when I noticed something odd, my chest itself was white but not in the normal wolf fashion.
On my chest was a giant white trident that I just knew glowed almost silver under the moonlight. I tilted my head the other way when a shadow of a person loomed over me and before I knew it my small body (practically a pup come on!) was being manhandled and cooed at.
I struggled to get out of the arms that were holding me and didn't seem to want to let me go. Yelping wildly I was suddenly being pet and this was just awkward.
Struggling some more before I found a gap throughout the hands that were manhandling me I slipped through the hole and flopped onto the ground.
When I say flopped I mean flopped. I underestimated how far the ground was and let's just say, didn't land on my paws. No, I landed on my belly and groaned from the sudden pang that rattled through my chest.
"Alright girls. Leave your brother alone. We need to give him his necklace." Artemis said drawing my attention and shaking off the stinging pain that was through my chest as my tail wagged without me telling it too and my tongue sort of flopped out of my mouth as I started to pant happily.
There were more cooes that I ignored as Artemis made her way toward me showing this necklace that had a blue string with a moon in the middle along with a single bead that had a picture of a sword on it.
"I talked to your father while you were asleep and he wanted me to give you this as a present for missing so many things in your life. The moon was a gift from me and when you pull it as a human, you get a bow and arrow. The sword bead is just that, when you pull it you will get a sword that was forged specifically for you. On the back of each has part of your name. The moon has Percy on the back so if you for some reason get lost, people know your name. You can also wear it as a wolf too." She said as she tied it around my neck.
Puffing out my chest as I looked in the water once more I felt very confident that my life had just gotten better by a long shot.
Feeling excited for what is to come I let out a howl as the hunters jokingly joined in.
