My first class is chemistry, with Mr. Brady.

If I can remember correctly, Mr. Brady was my chemistry teacher for those short few months I was here last year. And he was a pig. Always staring down girls shirts when they were bent over their lab equipment.

I walk into the class and instantly hear a few gasps. Most of my friends would have graduated last year since we were all seniors, but since I never finished school, it made sense to re-enroll me to finish. Of course, I would only be here for a couple of weeks and won't actually finish, but that's fine. I had a lot of younger friends anyways.

"Emma?" A voice says and I can't help but freeze and take a deep breath. Here we go.

"Stacey!" I say, with a fake smile. Stacey jumps up from her seat, her blonde curls bobbing up and down on her shoulders.

"Oh my God!" She shrieks and gives me a huge hug. "Where have you been? We heard about your mom! And then you just went missing! We have all been so worried about you!"

I manage a small laugh. "Yeah, well," I say. "After my mom, you know, I went to live with my uncles. They're a traveling business thing. So I was out of school for the rest of the year and now I'm back."

"Emma," a voice says behind me and a shiver slides down my back. Derek places his hand on my back and smiles  at Stacey. "My dear cousin. Why don't you introduce me to your friends?"

Stacey and the girls behind her all giggle and blush. I roll my eyes. "This is Stacey," I say. I point behind her and say, "That's Clara and Anne."

Derek smirks. "Hello," he says, thickening his British accent.

"Emma?" Stacey says, playing with her hair. "You never told us you had a British cousin."

I roll my eyes again. "He's adopted. Derek. What are you doing here? You're supposed to be in class."

He looks down at his schedule. "Chemistry first hour with Mr. Brady. This is his class, right?"

"Yes!" Stacey says. "Mr. Brady is a total sleaze, but it's a fun class nonetheless. You can sit next to me."

Derek winks at her. "Of course." He gives me a smirk as he sits down next to Stacey. I feel my face heat up. Just yesterday he was kissing me, making Michael hate me, and now he's already sleazing up to some other girl.

I shake my head. No, Emma. It doesn't bother you. You aren't interested in him anyways.

I take my seat in front of Stacey as the last bell rings. Mr. Brady walks into class, a clipboard in hand.

"Hello, class," he says, his glasses at the end of his nose. He looks among us and smiles when he sees me. "We have an old student rejoining us today. I'm sure many of you know who Emma is."

"Yeah," some guy says. "She was that chick who was all over the news."

Mr. Brady sighs. "Anthony," he says. "Keep your mouth shut. We also have a new student joining us. Derek Winchester." Derek gives a slight wave of his hand, a cocky grin on his face. I notice some girls swoon and giggle, but I try to ignore it.

"No," Mr. Brady says. "Let's pick up from yesterday." We go into a long lecture on something I don't understand until the bell rings.

"Emma," Stacey says as I try to make it out of the room as quickly as possible. "Can we talk really fast?"

I smile at her and pull my bag up higher on my shoulder. "Yeah, sure," I say and feel my stomach knot up at the look on her face. "What's up?"

She pulls me by the arm away from the crowd. "It's about Abby."
