Dimitri

I awoke to much commotion in the main hall, and rubbed the sleep from my eyes before getting up to see what was going on. I slipped a dark gray t-shirt over my head, and followed the sound of Emrick and Kathleen’s voices. Everyone turned to look at me when I came in, and I tried not to feel self-conscious. “Good morning, Dimitri. How did you sleep?” Rick asked, smiling genuinely. “Fine, I guess. What’s all the noise for?” I suppressed a yawn, watching two wolves lay at Emrick’s feet. He was sitting in a large red chair, lounging comfortably. Kathleen was on her favorite wine-colored cushioned bench, Scarlet next to her. Chris was leaning against the doorframe, shooting me a playful, challenging glance. Geoffrey and Darien were in chairs like Emrick’s, only they were a darker shade of red, and didn’t look quite like a thrown. Leikos lifted up his head, sniffing the air at my arrival. Lupa opened one eye, but didn’t stir other than that. “Leikos and Lupa have been milling around our new friend’s house. They draw her out. I think we can use this to our advantage…” Rick murmured, stooping to pet Lupa.

She smiled, enjoying the sensation. I didn’t really like how Emrick referred to the red-head like she was some object, but I couldn’t exactly blame him. If she wasn’t going to join us, she could pose a real problem. “Okay…so what’s that mean?” “That one of us could wait with the wolves to meet her,” Darien answered, his voice languid and smooth like Emrick’s. “Won’t that just freak her out?” Chris asked, standing up straight. “Perhaps. But we’re running out of time. If she joins us, we need to train her while we track the Dark Elves, and that’s not exactly a simple task with only seven Immortals.” Chris nodded in agreement, placing his arms behind his head. I watched everyone for a moment before speaking up. Ambushing her from the woods was the complete opposite of what we should do. “I think that’s a bad idea. We could draw negative attention to ourselves that way…” I murmured, looking at Leikos to avoid everyone’s stares. “And whaddaya’ suppose we do, laddie?” Geoffrey asked, his Scottish accent blaring.

Emrick looked intrigued, his dark brown hair brushed back and his hazel eyes curious. Darien wore the same expression, his black hair almost slicked back into the same style. His tanned skin was a contrast to Emrick’s pale complexion, but looks aside, they could’ve been twins. His dark brown eyes weren’t as soft as Rick’s, but a leisurely smile was on his face nonetheless. Kat’s brown hair tumbled loosely to her shoulders, the sunlight making her copper highlights glow. Her rounded face, full lips and green-amber eyes reminded me of a porcelain doll, expressive and alert. She was crouched on the floor and petting Lupa, who lapped up the affection like water. Chris smirked at me from the corner, sandy blonde hair buzzed short on the sides, but messy in the front. He looked just like any other teenage jock; muscles, lingo, mannerisms and all. His dark blue eyes were always playful, and the only time he was serious was when he was kicking supernatural ass.

Scarlet wore her usual scowl, her burgundy locks rolling from her head like ribbon. Her aristocratic nose, thin lips and blue-silver eyes resembled any eighteen century portrait, minus the leather and assortment of weapons. I cleared my throat, sticking by my decision. “We have to meet her somewhere normal, public. We can draw her out that way…we can’t just show up at her house and not expect her to go ballistic.” “You have a point, Dimitri. How do you propose on meeting her?” I looked up at Emrick, shrugging. Chris took the opportunity to end the silence, which really wasn’t a good idea. “Rookie can get his flirt on!! I’m sure he can lure her back here if he’s learned anything from me…” I whirled to face him, refusing to let my face get red. I punched him roughly, moving faster than what he could block. “Oww!!” I grinned, but frowned once Emrick said “Interesting…” “I really don’t want to do that,” I blurted, watching Scarlet and Kat snicker. “There has to be some way we can convince her to meet with us…” “Didn’t you say she had an amulet, D?” Scarlet asked, turning to face me. I nodded, swallowing my embarrassment. “Hey, yeah! We could tell her we know her parents, or something!” Kat chimed, clasping her hands together. Rick tilted his head in consideration, watching the four of us. “Or…I could just ask her out,” Chris muttered, a perverted smile playing across his lips. I punched him again, but he dodged it nimbly. “She’ll be halfway across the country, if you do that…” Scarlet teased, crossing her legs.

Chris made a face, rolling his eyes. “I say we just let the wolves handle her,” Geoff growled, looking down at Leikos. “She’s obviously not afraid of them…” “I highly doubt she’ll follow them all the way back here, either,” Darien noted, leaning back in his chair. Geoff excused himself with a small barrage of curses from under his breath, stalking into the kitchen. That suddenly made me thirsty, and I remembered my thermos was on the second shelf of the refrigerator door. I sat in Geoff’s seat after a few more quiet moments, since technically nothing was “silent” to my ears anymore. Emrick spoke after some more awkward quietness, looking to the four of us. “I don’t care how you do it, but come Sunday night, I want at least one of you to have made contact with her. And more so than just a handshake. If we have to gain her trust, than we will, but let’s try to speed it up. She’s the key to stopping this war, and we can’t have any mistakes.” We all nodded at the same time, and were about to leave when Emrick called my name. I turned, wondering what else there was left to say. “I want you to be the lead on this.” My eyes widened, and Chris snorted. “What?! You’re letting the rookie be the leader of a mission?? One that means life and death??” “Yes. I think he’s capable. Besides, the only way to get better is to have experience,” he murmured, giving me an encouraging wink.

I dipped my head in appreciation, feeling Scarlet’s anger hanging in the air. She stomped back to her room without another word, slamming her door forcefully. I sighed, turning to Kat. “Congratulations!” She squealed, giving me a tight hug. I could’ve easily avoided it, but decided not to hurt her feelings. “Thanks…” I murmured quietly, the three of us walking to the kitchen. I grabbed my elixir, drinking with parched gulps. “So…how are we gonna’ meet her?” Kat asked, sitting at the table with her bright purple thermos, which had pink flowers and butterflies all over it. Her practically matching amulet glinted in the kitchen light, and I shrugged as I took another sip from my black thermos. It had silver tribal swirls all around it, and when I was finished, I set it beside me on the counter. “Geoff said she likes the wolves…right?” The two nodded, and Chris rummaged around for something to eat for breakfast. How he still ate human food was beyond me. His head sprung up a second later with a smile. “I think I know where this is headed…and I like your idea,” he murmured, snapping his fingers.

Kat looked lost, waiting for one of us to clue her in. “I think we should hook a mic up to one of their medallions…maybe she’ll give away where she hangs out.” “Ohhh, that’s a good idea!! How about tonight?” “Sounds good to me. I’ll go get it now,” Chris said, biting into a Poptart as he went to the supply room. Kat smiled at me and drank from her thermos. “So…you think Scarlet’s gonna’ stay pissed at me?” “Oh yeah. But, she’ll get over it. It was your idea, so it’s only fair that you’re the leader,” she noted, twirling the cap around her finger. I shrugged, watching as Chris came back with the small microphone. He threw it at me and I caught it with precision, gently tucking it in my pocket. “So…this girl…is she hot??” I rolled my eyes, trying to forget the way her hair framed her face, or the way her hips moved. “That’s a yes,” Kat giggled, and I ran a hand through my messy black hair. It had a certain style about it though; neat yet messy all in one. Kat said girls digged it, but I just thought it looked right. Chris grinned, rubbing his hands together after he took another bite from his Poptart. “So? Are you gonna’ flirt with her, or am I?” I growled, like one of the wolves, throwing the frying pan that was on the wall to my right. He caught it effortlessly, smirking like a moron. “No one has to flirt with her, alright? One of us will just bump into her and mention her amulet, or something…” I muttered as I stalked back to my room. “I’d rather flirt with her. Leader or not, I’m still gonna’ use my charm to get her here,” Chris called, laughing as I flipped him off.
